General Studies Program
Mission Statement:
Since the primary purpose of education is intellectual development, the General Studies Program at the University of Nebraska at Kearney is designed to provide broad intellectual knowledge of the diverse academic disciplines. UNK's goal is to help students become liberally educated, that is, in possession of the intellectual skills and knowledge necessary to function and prosper as a citizen of contemporary society.

- The General Studies Program requires 45-hours of all UNK students wishing to pursue a baccalaureate degree. There are eight major categories within the program:
- English Language (9 hours required)
- Foreign Language (0-3 hours required
- Humanities (9-15 hours required)
- Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science (3 hours required)
- Natural Sciences (7 hours required)
- Social and Behavioral Sciences (9-15 hours required)
- Personal Development (2-3 hours required)
- Capstone Course (0-1 hour required)
