The majority of students entering dental school have a B.S. Degree. It is recommended that the student pursue a degree program with an academic major.
Admission to dental school is based on scholastic record, DAT scores, personal recommendations and an interview with members of the admissions committee. Students are strongly recommended to pursue a baccalaureate degree, since admission to dental school cannot be assured.
The following two-year program is based on the requirements of the University of Nebraska College of Dentistry, Lincoln, Nebraska. While other dental hygiene programs may be similar, the student is urged to contact the specific school of his or her choice to determine any suggested variations of this pre-professional schedule.
Other requirements for admission to the University of Nebraska College of Dentistry include 60 credit hours and a scholastic standing of at least 2.5.
The College of Medicine of the University of Nebraska Medical Center requires a minimum of 90 semester hours for admission. However, to provide an opportunity for in-depth study, the completion of a college major or undergraduate degree is strongly recommended. Medical schools do not specify which major a student should pursue in conjunction with his/her premedical studies. Chemistry and biology majors are commonly chosen but other science majors, psychology, business or the humanities are acceptable as long as the core science courses in chemistry, biology and physics are included.

The educational requirements for admission to a physical therapy program vary from school to school. Many programs require a B.S. degree; some will accept applicants after two or three years of undergraduate education. The following courses are strongly recommended. Students pursuing a pre-physical therapy program should also plan for a college major. Competition for places in professional schools of physical therapy is very fierce and admission cannot be assured.
Students pursuing a program of study in pre-physical therapy should also choose a major so that they can be working towards a baccalaureate degree concurrently with the pre-physical therapy program.
A candidate for admission to the Physician Assistant Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, must have successfully completed a minimum of 90 semester hours of academic courses with a minimum grade point average of 2.5. Normally he/she must have completed the following courses before enrollment:
Consultation with the PA Program academic advisor at the Medical Center and the Office of Health-Related Education Programs at UNK regarding a schedule of courses is urged before a student begins a third year.
Graduates of the Physician Assistant program practice the art and science of medicine and, working under the general supervision of physicians, assume a high level of patient care responsibility by performing many medical tasks formerly done only by physicians.
The pre-podiatry requirements depend on the college of podiatry one selects. Most programs require a bachelor's degree in basic sciences (biology, chemistry, physics). For specific requirements students should consult the college which they plan to attend.
Electives should be chosen to complete a major and minor, General Studies and other graduation requirements of UNK.
