Courses (BASM)

200 Private Pilot Ground - 3 hours
Course serves as a preparation for the FAA Private Pilot written exam to be taken upon successful completion of the course. Course includes necessary FAA regulations, weather, air and radio navigation, flight safety, and emergency procedures. F, Sp.
291 Private Pilot Flight - 1 hour
Prerequisite: Concurrent enrollment in BASM 200 or previous successful completion of the FAA Private Pilot written examination. Course consists of all the dual and solo flight hours required for private pilot certification. All flight instruction emphasizes preflight preparations, airplane operating procedures, proper airplane flight control, air and ground safety, traffic control procedures and communication. Course includes adequate solo flight practices and solo cross country flights. Completion of private pilot certification is necessary to receive credit for this course. F, Sp.
300 Instrument Ground - 3 hours
Course serves as preparation for the FAA written exam. Content includes VOR, DME procedures, IFR low altitude, Instrument Pilot enroute maps, and IFR regulations. F, Sp.
303 Instrument Flight - 2 hours
Practice instrument attitude flying including VOR, DME, localizer, ILS, and ADF approaches. F, Sp.
304 Commercial Ground - 3 hours
Course serves as preparation for the FAA commercial written exam. Includes sophisticated weight and balance problems, navigation problems, and takeoff and landing distance charts. F.
305 Commercial Flight - 2 hours
Practice on commercial maneuvers including chandelles, lazy eights, steep 720s, and precision landings. F, Sp.
356 Advanced Aircraft Systems - 3 hours
This course will acquaint the student with various aircraft types and sophisticated aircraft systems, as well as pilot requirements and responsibilities within these systems. Spring-even numbered years.
357 Advanced Aerodynamics/Aircraft Performance - 3 hours
Prerequisite BASM 304This course is designed to develop a sound understanding of the concepts of aerodynamics relevant to flight, and the impact of the natural environment upon the performance of modern aircraft. Spring-odd numbered years.
361 Aviation Airport Management - 3 hours
Primary emphasis on planning the complete development of an airport including the economic, social, political, and operation requirements. Fall-odd numbered years.
362 Aviation Safety - 3 hours
The primary goal of this course is to thoroughly indoctrinate the student pilot with safety consciousness including awareness of physical limitations, effects of flight on human body, severe weather, and in-flight emergencies. Fall-odd numbered years.
363 Aviation Law - 3 hours
Covers the interpretation and application of the statutes, related acts, and federal regulations, and common law aviation issues. Fall-even numbered years.
364 Air Traffic Control - 3 hours
Prerequisites: BASM 200, BASM 291This course is designed to give the student an in-depth understanding of the air traffic control occupation with insights into its functions, equipment, and responsibilities. Spring-even numbered years.
365 Certified Flight Instructor - 2 hours
This course involves the practice and simulation of content related topics necessary for the effective flight instructor-student learning process. F, SP.
366 Fundamentals of Instruction - 1 hours
This course introduces the teaching methodology in flight instruction which is necessary for the effective instructor-student learning process. F, Sp.
367 Certified Flight Instructor Instrument - 2 hours
This course involves the practice and simulation of instrument related topics that are necessary for the instrument rating. F, Sp.
368 Multi-Engine Rating - 2 hours
This course prepares the student for the multi-engine rating. Content includes fuel system management, engine out procedures, icing, attitude instrument flying, and simulated power losses during landings and takeoffs. F, Sp.
369 Multi-Engine Instructor - 2 hours
This course will develop the knowledge, skill and aeronautical experience necessary to meet the requirements for the multi-engine flight instructor certificate. F, Sp.
399 Business Apprenticeship Program - 1-4 hours
This Business Apprenticeship Program is designed to provide students with a variety of experiences which will facilitate competency in their chosen field of study. Students who plan to teach will assist faculty members in preparing bibliographies, in research, in translations, in aiding classroom discussions, in preparing special lectures and programs, in grading and preparing examinations. Must be approved by Department Chair. F, Sp.
499 Special Problems in Business - 3 hours
Permission of instructor is required. Independent investigations of business problems. Topics to be investigated may be tailored to meet the needs of the student. A case study course designed (1) to integrate the knowledge acquired in other courses in business administration, and (2) to emphasize analysis and decision-making. 233 Business Statistics - 3 hours
Prerequisites: MATH 120GS or MATH 123GS. A statistical analysis of business and economic data used in business and how this analysis aids in making sound business decisions. Some sections use computer applications. F, Sp.
301 Principles of Management - 3 hours
Prerequisite: Junior standing. An integrated study of the functions of a manager: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. An in-depth look at the classical and behavioral theories. Some sections use computer applications. F, Sp.
334 Intermediate Statistics - 3 hours
Prerequisite: BMGT 233, MATH 120GS or MATH 123GS. A study of the application of statistical techniques to business decisions such as risk, cost curves, forecasting, marketing research and quality control. Some sections use computer applications.
370 Small Business Management - 3 hours
Prerequisites: BACC 251 and BMKT 300Designed to develop the studentĚs understanding of the economic and social environment within which the small firm functions, and the influence this has on decision making. F, Sp.
380 Human Resource Management - 3 hours
The theory and practice of recruiting employees, utilizing their efforts effectively, and maintaining their willingness to work in the employing organization. F, Sp.

A study of the basic forms of financial compensation, including benefits packages. Principles of internal, external, and individual equity as determined by job evaluation, salary surveys, and performance evaluation comprise the core of this course. Suggested prerequisite: BMGT 380. F.
411/811P Labor Relations - 3 hours
A study of labor-management relations as defined by negotiated labor contracts. Topics include history of the labor movement, union structure and function, the negotiation process, and issues in labor relations. Suggested prerequisite: BMGT 380. Sp.
414/814P Production and Operations Management - 3 hours
Prerequisite: BMIS 281, MATH 102GS or BMGT 233 or equivalent. This course explores the transformation of materials, land, labor, and capital into goods and services. Quantitative management systems are applied to the manufacturing process. F, Sp.
425 Operations Research - 3 hours
Prerequisite: MATH 102GS and BMGT 233 or equivalents. Recent developments relating to business application of linear programming, simplex method, transportation method, post optimality analysis, game theory, utility theory, PERT-CPM, queuing theory, dynamic programming, Markov chains. Designed to develop understanding of and appreciation for the complex interrelationships of people in formal organizations. The course focuses on both individual and group behavior, with emphases on motivation, leadership, conflict, and other aspects of organizational dynamics. F, Sp.

Prerequisite: BMGT 380. Provides the student with an opportunity to study and research current issues in human resource management; course stresses an informal setting and open communications approach. Sp.
489/889P Business Consultantship - 3 hours
Senior Standing and consent of the Department Chair is required. This course affords the student an opportunity to serve in a consultant capacity for an area business. In-depth business analysis is conducted by the student, and specific recommendations are reported to the management of the firm. F, Sp.

A review of basic knowledge and personality requirements of selling; the role of salesmanship in distribution and production; the various techniques and methods involved in making a sale. F, Sp.

A study of service marketing as it applies to the interrelated organizations that make up the travel and tourism industry. The course focuses on the roles research and planning play within the industry. F.
395 Field Experiences in Practical Marketing - 3 hours
The course offers a series of on-site activities designed to allow the student to experience, analyze and develop a marketing plan for an organization in a major market area. 282 Computerized Decision-Making for Business - 3 hours
Prerequisite: BMIS 281 and BACC 250. Emphasis is on application packages rather than on program development. Course surveys microcomputer applications that meet the needs of business information systems. Maintaining uniformity of data and file organizations is stressed. Included are descriptions of and hands-on work with up-to-date business microcomputer applications such as decision support packages, electronic spreadsheets, file and data base management systems, graphic packages and accounting.
