MUSICAL ORGANIZATIONS

Performance opportunities exist for all University of Nebraska at Kearney students through participation in band, chorus, orchestra, music-theatre, or small ensembles.

Bands: University band membership is open to all student instrumentalists. Many of the bands take special tours throughout the year. Academic credit is available for participation in the band program. All students interested in the band program should contact band directors prior to the first rehearsal.

Jazz-Rock Ensemble: Participation in the Jazz-Rock Ensemble gives one an opportunity to gain understanding of, and appreciation for, big band, jazz, rock styles, and improvisation. The Ensemble gives scheduled concerts and participates in an annual tour through Nebraska. Members must evidence proficiency in playing the trumpet, trombone, saxophone, piano, guitar, bass, or drums.

Marching Band: The purpose of the UNK Marching Band is to provide half-time entertainment at the its best; to serve as a foundation for various University instrumental organizations; to participate in ceremonial functions; to serve as a musical/physical outlet for those seeking such activity; and, to contribute greatly to the high morale and spirit found on the UNK campus.

Pep Band: Membership in Pep Band is open to any student instrumental performer. Pep Band plays for all varsity basketball games, as well as other select University events.

Symphonic Band: In addition to playing for commencement and traveling on an annual performance tour, the Symphonic Band presents several concerts per year. Students who play wind or percussion instruments may audition.
