STUDENT GOVERNMENT

All students are members of the Associated Students of the University of Nebraska at Kearney, the student governing body. The Student Government provides students with the means to participate in student-sponsored activities, to legislate in areas of student concern, and to represent student opinion.

Inter-Fraternity Council: Membership of the Inter-Fraternity Council is composed of elected representatives from each active fraternity chapter at UNK. IFC acts as the governing body for UNK fraternities by fostering quality communication by coordinating efforts among them. IFC facilitates semester rush, as well as many other campus and community activities.

Panhellenic Council: Panhellenic acts as the governing body for the national sororities active at UNK. Membership of the Panhellenic Council is composed of three selected delegates from each UNK sorority. Panhellenic stands for scholastic excellence, guarding good health, maintaining fine standards, and serving the college community. It implements rush and encourages scholastic achievement and philanthropic involvement.

Resident Assistant Council: Resident Assistant Council was organized to act as a communication link between Resident Assistants. Resident Assistant Council also organizes bi-annual conferences with other colleges and universities in order to facilitate the exchange of beneficial information between Resident Assistants from different backgrounds.

Residence Hall Association: Residence Hall Association is the governing body of the UNK residence halls and serves as a representative voice for the students. RHA helps student residents by voicing concerns about educational objectives affecting the halls, promoting intra- and inter- residence hall communication and programming, facilitating communication between other campus organizations and RHA, and acting as a mediator between policies affecting residence hall life and the students.

Residence Hall Governments and Councils: Each residence hall has an individual hall council or government which provides leadership for the hall. The groups plan educational and social activities, encourage high academic and leadership standards, and promote unity among residents.

Student Court: Student Court is the judicial branch of the UNK Student Government. The Court serves as a student appeals board; hearing campus parking violations, constitutionality concerns within Student Government, and University policy violations occurring outside of the residence halls.

Student Senate: Student Senate is the legislative body of the UNK Student Government. Senate acts as a liaison between students, faculty, and administration. Senate members are elected by the student body and serve annual terms.
