Department Objectives
- To prepare and upgrade professional vocational instructors for secondary, post-secondary
and adult education programs;
- To prepare individuals for leadership positions in education and industry;
- To act as an interdisciplinary agent and provide a professional core of courses needed
for vocational endorsement in the following areas: Basic Business, Business Education,
Diversified Occupations/School-to-Work, Industrial Technology, Marketing Education, Family
and Consumer Sciences Related Occupations, Trade and Industrial Education, Vocational
Consumer and Homemaking, and Vocational Special Needs;
- To provide leadership in the identification of vocational-technical education research;
- To promote articulation between Nebraska high schools, technical community colleges,
state colleges and the university system;
- To provide services such as off-campus courses and workshops to enable teachers to
become vocationally endorsed;
- To provide professional development opportunities in vocational education.
- To prepare students:
- To perform in a technical and skillful manner the duties demanded in present-day
business pursuits;
- To select and interpret experiences which lead to better knowledge and understanding of
proper business procedures and of civil-social responsibility and behavior;
- To teach business subjects according to recognized methods and procedures (Business
Education Majors);
- To appreciate the need for lifelong continuing education in a dynamic society and
economy;
- To master habits, attitudes, ethics and ideals which lead to successful professional
careers.
CENTER FOR
VOCATIONAL TECHNICAL EDUCATION
Director, Lyle Colsden
Objectives:
- To provide leadership in the identification of vocational-technical education research;

become vocationally endorsed;

College of Business and Technology Graduation Requirements
All students graduating with a degree from the College of Business and Technology must
take at least 50% of their major area credit hour requirements from the College of
Business and Technology at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
All students graduating with a degree from the College of Business and Technology must
take a minimum of 30 of their last 36 hours of credit needed for their degree from the
University of Nebraska at Kearney.
BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION MAJOR
The Department of Business Administration/Business Education offers one emphasis in
this major:
- Business Administration Comprehensive Option - Office Management
Emphasis
The Office Administration Program prepares its graduates to become effective
administrative office managers, supervisors, or administrative assistants. For

and Department of Management/Marketing.
BUSINESS EDUCATION MAJOR
The Business Education Program prepares its graduates to become effective teachers
of business subjects in the areas of office occupations skills, accounting and data
processing, information and word processing, and basic business courses in business law,
economics, general business and consumer education. Business education students acquire
competence in the subject matter of the business world and an overall understanding of
teaching objectives.
Three options are available in this major:
- I. Basic Business Teaching Subject Endorsement Option -
Bachelor of Arts in Education
II. Business Education Teaching Field Endorsement Option -
Bachelor of Arts in Education
III. Marketing Education Teaching Field Endorsement Option -
Bachelor of Arts in Education
The Department also offers the Professional Vocational Education
sequence for endorsement in Vocational Education.
