Pre-Professional Programs
UNK Pre-Professional Programs are designed to satisfy requirements (except for
Architecture Preparation). Students who plan on transferring to a University should check
on their requirements as early as possible and visit with UNK advisors to assure the best
match between pre- and professional school programs. Refer to the General Studies program in this catalog, for the courses to
choose for electives.
Architecture Preparation (for UNL) - 30 hours
- ENG 101GSExpository Writing - 3
- ENG 102GS Expository Writing - 3
- ART 101GS Drawing Fundamentals - 3
- SPCH 100GS Fundamentals of Speech - 3
- PHYS 205GS General Physics - 5
- MATH 115 Calc I with Analytical Geometry - 5
- CSIS 108 Computers in Society - 3
- Humanities Electives - 6
- Open Electives - 2-3
The above is for students planning to attend UNL. The optimum time at UNK is generally
one year. While courses taken during a second year may transfer, there are architectural
course sequences which must be started as a sophomore in order to complete the program on
schedule. UNL also advises that architecture students should attend UNL during the
transfer summer and take the following: Environmental Studies 106/Architecture Graphics
230. Students not planning to attend UNL should visit with an advisor at the school of
their choice as soon as possible to decide which courses taken here at UNK are most
beneficial.
First Year

Chem. - 8
- (Only required for some fields of engineering)
- MATH 102 or 103 or 115 - 5-12
- (Depends on Math background)
- CSIS 109GS FORTRAN Programming - 3
- ENG 101GS (Not required at UNL) - 3
- Electives (Social Sciences and Humanities) - 0-9
Second Year
- PHYS 275GS and 276GS
General Physics - 10
- MATH 202 and 260 - 10
- STAT 441 Probability and Statistics - 3
- Electives (Social Sciences and Humanities) - 0-9
- Of the six elective courses available, it is a usual practice to include three or four
courses from one area, one or two courses from a second area, and one course from a third
area. Electives in the Social Sciences and Humanities may be chosen from Economics, English Literature, Geography. History, Philosophy,
Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, and Speech.
