Criminal Justice Major

Two degree options are available in the department.
I. Bachelor of Science Degree -Criminal Justice Comprehensive Major
II. Bachelor of Science Degree -Criminal Justice Major

The minor in Criminal Justice is available for students presuming majors in other disciplines.


I. Bachelor of Science Degree -Criminal Justice Comprehensive Major

A. General Studies Program - 45 hours

CJUS 201 Juvenile Justice System - 3
CJUS 215 Correctional Services and Systems - 3
CJUS 230 The Police Service - 3
CJUS 421 Criminal Justice Planning & Research - 3
CJUS 471 Monograph or - 3
CJUS 475* Internship in Criminal Justice - 6 or 9
SOC 460 Criminology - 3
*Either CJUS 471 Monograph (3 hrs.), or CJUS 475 Internship (6-9 hrs.) Must be taken by all majors. Should CJUS 475 be taken, 3 hours will be counted towards the above required 21 CJUS hours, with remaining hours counted among electives. However, the remaining hours will not be counted as required Criminal Justice electives. Students normally take internship during their junior or senior years.

However, students should select 300 level courses during their sophomore and junior years, and 400 level courses during their senior year, although permission may be granted to students who wish to take 400 level courses before their senior year.
