A permanently endowed scholarship is one whose funds have been raised from private sources and invested by the University of Nebraska Foundation. The income derived from the investment pays the scholarship. Eligible students may apply for the following scholarships through the University of Nebraska Office of Financial Aid, unless otherwise specified. Applications are taken early in the second semester for the majority of these endowed scholarships.
Louise Adams Endowed Scholarship:
Established by a gift from Louise Adams to provide financial assistance to a junior or
senior female student majoring in elementary education. Eligible students must have a
cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
Clayton H. Adee Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the friends and family of the late Clayton H. Adee to provide financial
assistance to senior students majoring in education with plans to teach in the public
schools. The recipient must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5.
Harold L. Ahrendts Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the friends and family of Dr. Harold Ahrendts, former chairman of the
Speech Department. Awarded to sophomore, junior, or senior students active in debate
and/or forensics. Recipients must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Contact the
Speech Department for applications and more information.
Alpha Psi Omega Endowed Scholarship:
These scholarships will be awarded to entering freshmen or upperclass students majoring in
theatre. Contact the Theatre Department for applications and more information.
Alpha Tau Omega/Don Briggs Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support students of UNK. It is open to brothers of Alpha Tau Omega,
Zeta Upsilon Chapter, enrolled in any College of UNK. Recipients shall be selected by the
Alumni Board of the Zeta Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Tau Omega, or other such committee as
appointed by same. Recipients shall be an active member of the Zeta Upsilon Chapter in
good standing. Preference shall be determined on the following criteria: Leadership
Qualities--based on high standard of integrity, fraternal involvement, campus involvement,
character and other such qualities as exemplified by the recipient; Scholarship--minimum
GPA considered for applicants will be that of one at least equal to or above the local
active chapter GPA, with more preference given to the student with a higher GPA; Need--the
Alumni Board shall consider need, although it should not be the determinant factor.
Scholarships awarded are for second semester.
Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the KSC/UNK Alumni Association to provide financial assistance to a junior
or senior student. Eligible students must be enrolled full-time and must be the son or
daughter of a UNK graduate. Selection is based upon scholarship, leadership, and
contributions to the school.
Associated Women Students Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the Associated Women Students Organization to provide financial assistance
to female students. The award will be for a junior or senior student.
Association for Computing Machinery Academic Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the Association for Computing Machinery for a member of the organization.
The recipient must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, completed 14 hours of computer
science classes with a GPA of at least 3.25, and must be attending UNK during the fall
semester for which the scholarship is awarded. Applications are available from Association
for Computing Machinery officers or computer science academic advisors during the spring
semester.
J.A. and Fern Baldwin Endowed Scholarship:
Established by a gift from J.A. and Fern Baldwin to provide financial assistance to a
junior or senior student majoring in business administration or economics. Eligible
students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in their discipline. Selection will be based upon
financial need.
Theodore G. Baldwin Memorial Scholarship:
Established by the friends and family of the late Theodore G. Baldwin to provide financial
assistance to high school graduates of Kearney High School who will be majoring in
business. The scholarship may be renewed to a maximum of four years upon satisfactory
progress.
Elmer H. and Marian L. Beckmann Endowed Scholarship:
This scholarship is awarded to a student or students in the Department of Physics or
Physical Science with a preference given to a physics student.
Isabel M. Bennett Endowed Scholarship:
Established by a request from Isabel Bennett, this scholarship will be awarded to a junior
or senior female student pursuing a major in teacher education. Selection will be based
upon academic achievement.
Lt. Col. Ret. Dale D. Best and Izona J. Best Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support a student in the Departments of History and Social Studies,
pursuant to World Peace. Selection based on past academic achievement and demonstration of
potential for future academic and professional accomplishments. Need may be considered but
will not be the determinant factor in selection.
Gunter Bieber Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established in memory of Gunter Bieber, who was a faculty member in the Department of
Foreign Languages, to provide financial assistance to sophomore, junior, or senior
students studying German. Selection will be based upon financial need and merit.
E. Roy Blazer Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by friends and family of the former English Professor E. Roy Blazer, this
scholarship will be awarded to a freshman student majoring in music. Selection will be
based upon ability and financial need. This scholarship is awarded for second semester.
Boars International Endowed Scholarship:
Established to assist one or more full-time undergraduate students enrolled at UNK.
Selection criteria include being active in varsity athletics at UNK, a resident of
Nebraska, of sophomore, junior, or senior status, and maintaining a GPA of 2.0 or better.
Financial need shall not be a criteria. Scholarships are awarded for one academic year,
but may be renewed upon application and satisfactory performance by the recipient.
Mr. and Mrs. John J. Boasen Endowed Scholarship:
Established by Mrs. John J. Boasen in memory of her husband, this scholarship will be
awarded to students enrolled in the Department of Business. Eligible students must have
completed one semester of college work.
Joseph Bowes Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the family of Joseph Bowes to provide financial assistance to sophomore,
junior, or senior students who are pursuing a degree in elementary or secondary education.
Two scholarships for elementary education majors and two for secondary education majors
will be awarded for second semester.
Don Briggs Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support students of UNK in the College of Fine Arts and Humanities.
Recipients shall be selected from the names of applicants recommended by the Department of
Journalism. Recipients must be full-time, have a 3.0 GPA in Journalism, and be a Sophomore
or Junior majoring in Journalism with emphasis in Sports Information. Preference shall be
given to students from rural areas in Central Nebraska Counties. This scholarship is to be
awarded second semester.
Erna E. Brisch Endowed Scholarship:
Established to provide financial assistance to one or more full-time undergraduate
students at UNK. This scholarship shall be for one academic year, but may be renewed upon
satisfactory progress by the recipient. To apply for renewal the UNK annual and endowed
scholarship application must be completed each spring.
Alvin Brown Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established in 1976 by friends and family of the late Alvin Brown to provide financial
assistance to athletes participating in football or basketball at the University of
Nebraska at Kearney. Contact the UNK Athletic Department for applications and more
information.
William E. Bruner Biology Research Grant: Endowed
: Established by Mr. and Mrs. Bruner to provide financial assistance to an upperclass or graduate student majoring in biology. Awards are made based upon a research proposal in the area of plant ecology or plant taxonomy. Submit proposal in spring semester to chairman of Biology Department.
Buffalo County Bar Association Advocate's Endowed Scholarship in Memory of James M.
Knapp:
Established to help support students enrolled at UNK. Selection criteria considered
include being a pre-law student, however, this is not a requirement. In keeping with Mr.
Knapp's college career, students who excel in debate, theatre, and speech should be given
special consideration. The student who best qualities for this scholarship should have the
ability to express themselves well, think well on their feet, and be proficient at
expressing an idea or opinion and defending it in the classroom or any public forum.
Therefore, this scholarship may include any major at UNK as long as the recipient
possessed the above characteristics.
Business Administration Accounting Endowed Scholarship:
Established in 1978 by the Business Department, to provide financial assistance to
students in Business Administration comprehensive majors with emphasis in Accounting.
Rex Carr Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the family of Rex Carr to provide financial assistance to a junior or
senior student who is active in the Wildlife Program and/or Wildlife Society, or enrolled
in biology. The recipient must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and be a full-time
student at UNK. Recipients must be residents of Scottsbluff County, an adjacent county, or
the "Panhandle" of Nebraska. If no applicants are available from these areas,
then the recipient may be a Central Nebraska resident.
Joseph P. Carroll Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the family of Joseph Carroll to provide financial assistance to an English
major. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and have a cumulative GPA of at least
3.3.
Case Hall Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the resident government of Case Hall, this scholarship is awarded to a
female sophomore, junior, or senior student. The recipient must have a cumulative GPA of
at least 2.0.
Central Nebraska Aviation Awareness, Inc., Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support students enrolled in the airway programs at UNK. Recipient
must be an academically qualified, full-time UNK student and a resident of Hall County or
an adjacent county. If there are no qualified candidates from one of these counties, the
recipient may be a Central Nebraska resident.
Victor Chab Czech Honor Scholarship:
Established to provide financial assistance to one or more full-time undergraduate
students at the University of Nebraska, who have incoming freshman class standing and have
graduated from Wilber-Clatonia High School during the preceding spring term. Recipients
must establish a Czech lineage of no less than fifty percent (50%). In the event that no
graduating senior at Wilber-Clatonia High School satisfies the requirements, a graduating
senior from any high school located in Saline County, Nebraska, or a graduating senior who
is a permanent resident of Saline County, Nebraska, but attends high school in a
neighboring county, and satisfies the remaining criteria for this scholarship may be
selected. Recipients shall be selected based upon nominations submitted by letter
postmarked no later than March 15 of each year by the faculty of Wilber-Clatonia High
School, Wilber, Nebraska. If it is necessary to seek other qualified applicants, the
selection shall be made by the University-wide Scholarship Committee based on nominations
from other Nebraska high schools by letter postmarked no later than May 1 of each year.
Other criteria to be considered include rank in the upper ten percent (10%) of graduating
class, potential for a successful career, good character and integrity. Athletic
achievements shall not be considered in the selection process. Preference shall be given
to applicants who are to enter the College of Engineering and Technology at UNL as regular
full-time students. Other preferences in descending order are any college or school at
UNL, UNK, UNMC, or UNO.
Don Childs Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the friends and family of Don Childs, to provide financial assistance to
two sophomore, junior, or senior track athletes. Selection will be based upon the
athlete's ability in distance running as well as leadership qualities and general good
character. Contact the Athletic Department for applications and more information.
Lucille F. Cole Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established to provide financial assistance to freshman students. Recipients of these
awards shall be graduates of Minden, Nebraska High School and are selected by Minden High
School. All scholarships are for one academic year, but may be renewed. No recipient will
receive this scholarship for more than four years.
James P. Comerford Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help meet the educational expenses of a member of Nebraska Beta Chapter of
Phi Delta Theta Fraternity in attending UNK. Recipients shall be selected from among the
members of the Fall Pledge Class of Nebraska Beta Chapter of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity,
and the award shall be applied to the recipient's expenses the succeeding Fall semester.
Nebraska Beta Chapter of Phi Delta Theta shall notify the Foundation of the recipient each
Spring.
Ron Cope UNK College Republican Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established to assist full-time undergraduate or graduate students at UNK. Selection
criteria include being an active member of the UNK College Republicans, of sophomore,
junior, or senior status, a full-time student involved in various extracurricular
activities, having a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above, a Nebraska high school graduate, and
may be nontraditional. Financial need shall not be considered. Recipients may attend
summer school. Scholarships are awarded for one academic year, but may be renewed upon
application and satisfactory performance by the recipient.
F. Keith Cottrell Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the friends and family of F. Keith Cottrell, who was a Kearney State
graduate and a member of Athletic Associates, this scholarship will be awarded to a UNK
athlete. Selection will be based upon financial need, and the scholarship will be rotated
each year to an athlete in a different sport. Contact the Athletic Department for

Counseling and School Psychology Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the Department of Counseling and School Psychology to provide financial
assistance to graduate students preparing for a career in counseling, school psychology,
educational psychology, or any other program of graduate study offered within the
department. Contact the head of the department for applications and more information.
Clyde and Gertrude Cox Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support students of UNK in the College of Education. Recipient must be
a graduate of one of the following Nebraska schools: Dunning (Sandhills) High School,
Minatare High School, Central City High School, or Grand Island Northwest High School. If
there is no qualified person from any of the above-named schools, it should go to a
qualified person at some other Class C or D Nebraska school. Recipient must be an
education major, maintain a 3.0 or better GPA, be classified as a sophomore or above, and
be a full-time student.
George A. Crosscup Endowed Scholarship:
Established by a gift from the estate of Estella Pearl Crosscup in memory of George A.
Crosscup, this scholarship will be awarded to needy and deserving students from Buffalo
County, Nebraska. Preference will be given to those students with farm backgrounds.
Sharyn and Edward Crossman Endowed Scholarship:
Established by Edward and Sharyn Crossman for any junior or senior student majoring in
Human Development and Family Relationships. The recipient must have a cumulative GPA of at
least 3.0 including a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 in the major. The student must be
active in one or more department student organizations. If a qualified HDFR student cannot
be identified, any junior or senior student majoring in a Family and Consumer Sciences
major may apply.
Dr. Herbert L. Cushing and Margaret Anderson Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by Dr. and Mrs. Herbert L. Cushing as a memorial to their daughter, this
scholarship will be awarded to a female student who has completed at least 30 credit
hours. In order of preference, the student's field of preparation should be laboratory
technology, journalism, or English.
Ed. A. Davidson Endowed Scholarship:
This scholarship will be awarded to a graduate of Kearney High School and/or Kearney
Catholic High. Recipients must display financial need and have a GPA of at least 2.5 in
high school. Awarded at high school graduation, the scholarship is received the second
semester of the freshman year at UNK. Contact the Kearney High or Kearney Catholic
counselor for applications and more information.
DeeAnna DeLaet Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the DeLaet family to provide financial assistance to a full-time sophomore,
junior, or senior majoring in biology or chemistry. The recipient must have a cumulative
GPA of at least 3.0.
Walter F. Deyle Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established in memory of Walter F. Deyle by friends, family, and associates, this
scholarship will be awarded to a senior student majoring in business administration with
an emphasis in real estate. The recipient must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a 3.5 GPA
in business classes.
Debra Dirks Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the friends and family of Debra Dirks, this scholarship will be awarded to
a sophomore, junior, or senior student majoring in family and consumer science. The
recipient must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 and demonstrate financial need.
Don Duryea Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the family and friends of former English professor Donald Duryea, this
scholarship will be awarded the second semester to a senior student majoring in English
education.
Frances Larson Ehly Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by gifts from Mrs. Arnold Ender in memory of her husband, to provide financial
assistance to students majoring in business administration or industrial management.
Recipients must be a junior or senior with a GPA of at least 3.0 in their discipline.
Arnold Ender Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by gifts from Mrs. Arnold Ender in memory of her husband, to provide financial
assistance to students majoring in business administration or industrial management.
Recipients must be a junior or senior with a GPA of at least 3.0 in their discipline.
Dr. Leona Mae Failor Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support full-time undergraduate students enrolled in the College of
Education at UNK. Selection criteria include majoring in Education and/or Educational
Psychology, being residents of either Nebraska or Iowa, having incoming Freshman class
standing, and having a 3.0 GPA or equivalent for all high school courses taken. Preference
shall be given to female students.
George and Verda Fairfield Endowed Scholarship:
Established to provide financial assistance to one or more full-time undergraduate
students at UNK. Preference shall be given to graduates of these Nebraska schools: Kearney
High School, Pleasanton High School, and graduates of Litchfield or Ansley High Schools
who previously attended elementary and/or junior high school in Mason City, Nebraska.
Recipients' participation in school activities and extracurricular activities will be
taken into consideration. Financial need may be considered in making this award. This
scholarship may be renewable upon satisfactory academic progress by the recipient.
Family and Consumer Sciences Outstanding Student Endowed Scholarship:
Established to provide financial assistance to students preparing for a career in Family
and Consumer Sciences. Preference shall be given to graduates of any accredited Nebraska
high school. The recipient must be a full-time junior or senior student (taking a minimum
of 15 hours) and have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5. Demonstrated aptitude and
potential for the profession and financial need will be considered in making the award.
First National Bank of Kearney Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support students of UNK in the Department of Business or in a business
related area, i.e. mathematics, computer science, etc. Recipients must be a graduate of a
Buffalo County high school.
First National Bank & Trust Co. of Kearney Endowed Scholarship:
Established to provide financial assistance to regularly enrolled freshman students.
Recipients of these awards shall be graduates of Kearney, Nebraska Senior High School,
Catholic High School of Kearney, Nebraska or any successor secondary school, who have
financial need and scholastic aptitude for university studies. Recipients of this award
shall be selected by a committee composed of the President of First National Bank &
Trust Co. of Kearney, a representative of Kearney, Nebraska Senior High School, and
Catholic High School of Kearney, Nebraska. This committee determines the number and the
amount of the scholarships.
Charlie Foster Men's Track Endowed Scholarship:
Established in 1976 by Charlie Foster to assist student athletes participating in men's
track at UNK. Contact the men's track coach for applications and more information.
Charlie Foster Women's Track Endowed Scholarship:
Established in 1976 by Charlie Foster to assist student athletes participating in women's
track at UNK. Contact the women's track coach for applications and more information.
Dr. Donald E. Fox Endowed Scholarship:
Established by former professor Dr. Donald E. Fox, to provide financial assistance to a
second semester freshman with a major or minor in chemistry. Selection is based upon
academic achievement, need, integrity, and motivation. Contact the Chemistry Department
for applications and more information.
Tom Fox Memorial Golf Endowed Scholarship:
Established to provide financial assistance to students at UNK. Selection criteria include
being a member of the UNK Golf Team, a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better, and past academic
achievement and demonstration of potential for future academic and professional
accomplishments. Although financial need may be considered, it should not be the
determinant factor.
Lloyd L. Frank Memorial Endowed Loan:
Established in 1978 in memory of Lloyd Frank, former Buffalo County Sheriff, this low
interest loan will be awarded to a full-time student majoring in criminal justice.
Repayment of the balance plus an annual interest rate of three percent will be due within
five years of graduation. If the student finds employment in the law enforcement field
within Buffalo County, Nebraska, for two years, the loan will be cancelled.
Friends of Music Endowed Scholarship:
Established by several private donations, these scholarships are awarded to new students
who have declared a major or minor in music and who have qualified through auditions.

Froendt Education Scholarship:
Established to provide financial assistance to a full-time undergraduate student enrolled
in the University of Nebraska, with preference given to students who will be attending
UNL. The recipient shall have incoming freshman class standing and be a graduate of
Coleridge Community High School. Preference shall be given to physically handicapped
students. Other criteria to be considered include high school scholastic performance,
financial need and leadership demonstrated through school and community activities. This
scholarship is for one academic year only.
Fay W. Fuller Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the friends and family of Fay W. Fuller to provide financial assistance to
students who are residents of either Custer or Logan counties of Nebraska. Selection will
be based upon scholarship and financial need.
Gamma Phi Beta Kay Christensen Endowed Memorial Scholarship:
Established in memory of deceased members of the sorority, this scholarship will be
awarded to an upperclass student with a major or minor in family and consumer science.
Eligible students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
Deborah Garrison Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the friends and family of Deborah Garrison to provide financial assistance
to a junior or senior student majoring in theatre or journalism. The recipient must have a
cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.
Charles H. Gere Endowed Scholarship:
Established to provide financial assistance to one or more full-time undergraduate
students at UNK.
Dudley W. Graham Memorial Athletic Endowed Scholarship:
Established by Gary D. Graham, M.D. in memory of his father, Dudley Graham, who was an
athlete at Kearney State and was actively involved in the athletic program. This
scholarship will be awarded alternately between athletes participating in football.

Dulworth "Dode" Graham Athletic Endowed Scholarship:
Established to provide support for students of UNK. Recipients shall be selected by the
UNK Scholarship Committee from the applicants recommended by the Athletic Department
Scholarship Committee. Recipients must meet the academic standards of the University to be
eligible. Although financial need may be considered, it should not be the determinant
factor in selecting recipients.
Greater Oklahoma City Nebraskans Endowed Scholarship:
Established to provide financial assistance to one or more full-time undergraduate
students. Recipients must be graduates of an Oklahoma High School. All scholarships are
awarded for one academic year, but may be renewed upon satisfactory progress.
Larry D. and Jeffe D. Hall Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support students of UNK in the College of Business. Recipients shall
be selected by the UNK Scholarship Committee from the names of applicants recommended by
the Scholarship Committee of the College of Business. Selection criteria include being a
full-time Junior or Senior majoring in the College of Business with a 2.75 GPA or higher
and meets the University academic requirements. Although financial need may be considered,
it should not be the determinant factor.
Gene Hamaker Memorial Endowed Scholarships:
These scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen, upperclass, and graduate students
majoring in history. The awards are based on academic performance. Incoming freshmen
recipients must declare a history major and enroll in a history course. Upperclass student
recipients must be majoring in history and complete at least one three-hour upper division
(300-400 level) course. Graduate students must also complete history courses during
semester receiving scholarships.
Roscoe C. Hildreth, M.D. Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established to support a full-time regularly enrolled student at either UNK, UNL, UNO or
UNMC. The recipient shall have resided in Hildreth, Nebraska, during such time as they
were attending high school and shall have graduated from Hildreth High School or successor
secondary school. Financial need shall be considered. Preference shall be given to
students regularly enrolled in pre-medicine or regularly enrolled in the College of
Medicine, University of Nebraska Medical Center. The recipient shall be selected by the
University-wide Scholarship Committee of the University of Nebraska. Scholarships shall be
awarded for one academic year, but may be renewed upon application and satisfactory
performance. Preference shall be given to the recipient of this scholarship in the
previous year, provided he or she maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
Ormond P. Hill Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established to provide support for full-time undergraduate or graduate students at UNK who
exceed the cumulative GPA requirement. Selection criteria considered are past academic
achievement and demonstration of potential for future academic and professional
accomplishments. Financial need may be considered the deciding factor in awarding the
scholarship.
Harry H. Hoffman Endowed Scholarship:
Established in 1978 by Dr. and Mrs. Harry Hoffman to provide financial assistance to a
student pursuing a major in English. Selection will be based upon financial need and
scholastic performance.
Eunice Holdgraf Endowed Scholarship:
Established to provide financial assistance to regularly enrolled undergraduate students
who are graduates of a Hamilton County, Nebraska high school. Recipients must be working
toward a degree either in Home Economics, with preference given to Foods and Nutrition or
dietetics, Engineering, or the medical services, listed in those priorities. Further
consideration will be given to demonstrated ability to complete academic studies. The
scholarship is awarded for one academic year and the amount will not exceed the total cost
for one academic year of tuition, fees, books and board and room. The scholarship may be
renewed upon satisfactory progress. No recipient will receive this scholarship for more
than four years.
Donald and Lela Holm Endowed Scholarship:
Established to aid graduating seniors or former graduates of Elm Creek High School who
have chosen to attend UNK. Recipients shall be selected based on financial need rather
than upon the academic standing of the student or their performance on achievement tests.
Applications are available at the UNK Office of Financial Aid and the Elm Creek High
School.
Philip S. and Lois C. Holmgren Endowed Scholarship Library Fund:
Established to support full-time undergraduate students in the Colleges of Natural and
Social Sciences and Education at UNK. Selection criteria include majoring in History
and/or Social Sciences, having a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior class standing, and having a
cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above. An International Graduate student may apply for the
scholarship and be considered if an undergraduate student is not selected. Financial need
shall not be a consideration. These scholarships shall be for one academic year but may be
renewed upon application and satisfactory performance by the recipient or recipients.
Kay and Jack M. Horner Family Endowed Scholarship:
Established in 1977 by the friends and family of the late Nina Frank Horner to aid
students majoring in English. One or more scholarships are awarded to a senior from
Kearney High School.
Pat Imming Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the friends and family of Pat Imming to provide financial assistance to an
upperclass student who has demonstrated the determination required to overcome an obvious
and severe physical handicap.
Bob and Dora Jenner Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by Bob Jenner in memory of his wife, Dora, and himself. This scholarship will
provide financial assistance to a Loup City High School graduate who has completed at
least 15 hours of credit at UNK. The student must have successfully completed one speech
course and indicate a desire to major or minor in speech/theatre.
Bob and Dora Jenner Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by Bob Jenner in memory of his wife, Dora, and himself. This scholarship will
provide financial assistance to a Loup City High School student who will be majoring in
speech and/or drama at UNK.
Gary G. Johnson Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the family of Gary Johnson to provide financial assistance to a full-time
UNK student athlete from Nebraska. The recipient must be a sophomore, junior or senior and
should be participating in football.
Lynn E. Johnson/Student Education Association Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support students at UNK who shall be a junior or senior student
preparing to enter the teaching profession, who is an active member of the UNK Student
Education Association, and who maintains a GPA of 3.0 or above. Recipients shall be
selected by the UNK Scholarship Committee in consultation with the Advisor of the UNK SEA.
Dr. O. D. Johnson Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the friends and family of Dr. Johnson. This scholarship will be awarded to
a junior premedical or paramedical major with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
William F. and Jean A. Johnson Endowed Scholarship:
Established by Mr. and Mrs. William F. Johnson to provide financial assistance to a
graduate of a Kimball County high school and a full-time undergraduate at UNK. Selection
will be based upon academic achievement.
Kearney Hub/Omaha World-Herald Endowed Scholarship:
This valuable scholarship will be awarded to a top high school senior. A student must be
in the top 10% of his graduating class, have an ACT composite of 28 or better, and
demonstrate significant leadership in co-curricular activities in order to be considered
for this prestigious award. This is a four-year award, and renewal will be based upon
maintenance of a 3.5 cumulative GPA, normal progress to the next higher grade level, and
leadership in co-curricular activities. Contact your high school counselor or the UNK

Kearney Sertoma Club Endowed Scholarship:
These scholarships will be awarded to graduate or undergraduate students majoring in
speech pathology or special education with preference given to speech pathology. Selection
will be based upon academic achievement and financial need.
Kearney Tennis Association Endowed Scholarship:
These scholarships will be awarded to entering college students who are tennis players.

Peggy (Robinson) and Michael Kelley Endowed Scholarship:
Established to assist students of UNK. Special consideration should be given to students
with any of the following attributes: (a) Graduates of Holdrege (NE) High School; (b)
Graduates of Millard (NE) North High School; (c) Affiliated with Alpha Omicron Pi
Sorority; or (d) College of Business/Accounting. Selection criteria considered is
financial need; consideration should be given to students who are academically eligible
but may be financially restrained from continuing their education.
Daniel D. Kern Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
This scholarship is to provide financial assistance to a freshman student attending UNK
who is an outstanding senior from Minden High School. Contact Minden High School for more
information.
Mr. and Mrs. W. O. King Endowed Scholarship:
Established by Mr. and Mrs. King to provide financial assistance to undergraduate students
who are sons and daughters of residents of Buffalo County.
James M. and Sharon P. Knapp Debate Endowed Scholarship:
Established in 1977 by Attorney James Knapp, who both attended Kearney State, this
scholarship will be awarded to upperclass students participating in intercollegiate
debate. Eligible students must be from Buffalo County, Nebraska. Contact the Speech

KNEnergy Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support students of UNK in the Department of Business. Recipients
shall be selected from applicants recommended by the Department of Business. Recipients
must be a business administration major, maintain a 3.0 or better GPA, and be a resident
of either Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, or Wyoming.
Landmesser/Murphy Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established to provide financial assistance to a full-time male student at UNK. Selection
criteria include being a junior or senior, a member of ATO Fraternity, and having held an
office in the UNK Chapter.
Mattie M. Larsen Endowed Scholarship:
Established by a gift from Mattie M. Larson, this scholarship will be awarded to worthy
UNK students who are residents of Custer or Logan County, Nebraska.
Alda Lehr Endowed Scholarship:
Established to provide financial assistance to one or more full-time undergraduate
students. Initial recipients shall have freshman class standing and be female graduates of
Albion, Nebraska High School or any successor school. The recipients of this scholarship
shall be determined by the Scholarship Committee of PEO Chapter D.J., Albion, Nebraska.
All scholarships are awarded for one academic year, but may be renewed upon satisfactory
progress. No recipient will receive this scholarship for more than four years.
Dr. Mary A. Lierley Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support students at UNK. Special consideration should be given to
students with a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior standing majoring in Art with first
preference given to students majoring in Art History, and having a GPA of 3.0 or above.
Financial need should be considered.
Larry P. Ludden Industrial Education Endowed Scholarship:
Established by a gift from Larry P. Ludden to provide financial assistance to an incoming
freshman who will be attending UNK and plans to major in industrial technology. Selection
will be based upon previous experience in high school industrial education and student's
cumulative GPA. Contact the Industrial Technology Department for application and more

Ray E. Lundy Endowed Scholarship:
This scholarship is awarded to a graduate student or students of UNK in business
administration. Selection is based on academic achievement and demonstration of potential
for future academic and professional accomplishments.
Bill Lynn Vocal Music Endowed Scholarship:
Established to support students of UNK in the College of Fine Arts and Humanities, Vocal
Music. Recipients shall be selected form the names of applicants recommended by the
College of Fine Arts and Humanities, Department of Music using the College of Fine Arts
and Humanities scholarship procedures. Recipients should be a Vocal Music major with 2.5
or better cumulative GPA. Selection criteria considered include past academic achievement
and demonstration of potential for future academic and professional accomplishments.
Financial need may be considered.
Bernice D. Mantor Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the friends and family of the late Mrs. Mantor to provide financial
assistance to a junior or senior student majoring in family and consumer science. The
recipient must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5. Selection is based upon scholarship,
accomplishment, professional goals, and participation in campus activities.
Dr. Lyle E. Mantor Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the friends and family of the late Dr. Mantor, this scholarship will be
awarded to a junior or senior student majoring in history. This scholarship will be
awarded for second semester.
Dr. Wayne Marshall Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the friends and family of former faculty member Dr. Wayne Marshall to
provide financial assistance to junior or senior student majoring in elementary education.
Dave and Tancie Martin Endowed Scholarship:
These scholarships will be awarded to two upperclass outstanding students at UNK with a
cumulative GPA of at least 2.4. Selection will be based upon scholarship, participation in
campus activities, and financial need. The recipients are not to be student athletes.
Marymee Family Endowed Scholarship:
Established to acknowledge the education the Marymee family has received at the University
of Nebraska and in memory of Janet Rae Marymee, Phi Beta Kappa. This scholarship provides
financial assistance to students who have lived within seven miles of Bladen, Nebraska or
students who are high school graduates of the Millard (Nebraska) Public School system.
Recipients shall have earned a minimum 3.0 cumulative high school GPA. Financial need will
not be considered in making the award. All scholarships are awarded for one academic year,
but may be renewed upon satisfactory progress.
Wayne R. and Virginia E. L. McKinney Family Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support students enrolled at UNK. Two scholarships shall be awarded
each year, one to a business major, and one to an athlete in any field of study. Selection
criteria include a GPA of 3.0 or above, with first consideration given to students from
Buffalo County and then to students from Central Nebraska.
Margaret A. McMullen Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the friends and family of Margaret A. McMullen, this scholarship will be
awarded to a senior social work major with a GPA of at least 3.0 and who can demonstrate
financial need.
Sylvia T. Menninga Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established to provide financial assistance to incoming freshman students. First
preference shall be given to graduates of the Douglas, Palmyra or Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca,
Nebraska High School. Recipients shall have been active participants in 4-H for at least
five years. Preference in the selection of recipients shall be given to applicants
entering programs in elementary education, nursing, home economics or agriculture. Further
consideration will be given to academic standing and financial need.
Artice Miles Endowed Scholarship:
Established by faculty and students of the Social Work Program in honor of Mrs. Miles,
this scholarship will be awarded to a full-time sophomore or junior student enrolled in
the Social Work Program. The recipient must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and
demonstrate aptitude and potential for the profession of social work. Financial need will
also be a consideration.
Deanie Moran Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the friends and family of Deanie Moran, this scholarship will be awarded to
an incoming freshman planning to participate in varsity athletics from one of the
following Central Nebraska counties: Buffalo, Hall, Adams, Kearney, Phelps, Dawson,
Custer, Sherman, Howard, Valley, or Greeley. Applications should be directed to the
Athletic Department.
Rock Morris Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the friends and family of Rock Morris, this scholarship will be awarded to
UNK sophomore, junior, or senior student who is majoring in art. Selection will be based
on financial need, and the recipient must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.
Dr. Mary L. Morse Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by friends and family of the late Dr. Morse to provide financial assistance to
a sophomore or junior student majoring in chemistry, physics, mathematics, or biology.
Daniel H. and Debra L. Mowrey Statistical Excellence Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support students of UNK in the College of Science and Humanities,
Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Recipients should be a junior or senior majoring
in Mathematics or Statistics, with at least two courses in statistics with a grade of 3.0
or better, and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better.
Nebraska Safety Center Endowed Scholarship:
Established by gifts from the Nebraska Safety Center, this scholarship provides assistance
for six semester hours of safety courses. The recipient must be working towards a major or
minor in safety, and must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
James W. Nielsen Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the friends and family of James W. Nielsen to provide financial assistance
to a junior or senior student majoring in physical science and/or mathematics. Eligible
students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5.
George Norris Endowed Scholarship:
Established by friends and family of George Norris to provide financial assistance to
sophomore, junior, or senior students who are pursuing a major, minor, or teaching
endorsement in political science. Recipients must have completed at least six hours of
political science courses and demonstrated scholarship and interest in political science.

Northern California Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the Northern California Alumni Association to help support students of UNK.
The Northern California Alumni Association may make recommendations. Recipients must
exceed the minimum academic grade point requirements, have a student classification of
sophomore or above, and be classified as a full-time student. Selection criteria
considered are past academic achievement and demonstration of potential for future
academic and professional accomplishments. Financial need may be considered.
Northern Californians for Nebraska Scholarship:
Established to provide financial assistance to one or more Northern California students at
the University of Nebraska. The recipient can be an incoming freshman. Eligible applicants
must be from a county that is from Kern County northward. First preference in awarding the
scholarship will be given to those students who previously held the scholarship and have
maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Second preference will be given to those
students recommended for consideration by Northern Californians for Nebraska. Third
preference will be given to other California students selected from applications received
for scholarship support at the University of Nebraska. Fourth preference will be given to
any other eligible students at the University of Nebraska. A letter of application for
incoming freshmen at UNK who wish to apply must be received by March 1 in the Office of
Financial Aid. Students currently enrolled at UNK must complete the UNK annual and endowed
scholarship application each spring.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Nylander Endowed Scholarship:
Established through a bequest in the will of the late Mrs. Nylander, this scholarship will
be awarded to one or more UNK students who are residents of Phelps County, Nebraska. The
recipients must have been residents of Phelps County at the time of graduation from high
school. Selection will be based upon financial need. Applications are available from
Phelps County high schools or the UNK Office of Financial Aid.
Verlyn R. Obering Accounting Endowed Scholarship:
Established by C.P.A. Verlyn Obering, a Kearney State alumnus, this scholarship will be
awarded to upperclass students majoring in accounting. Selection will be based upon merit
and financial need.
Clara Ockinga Business Education Endowed Scholarship:
Established by Clara Ockinga, a member of the Business Department faculty for over 31
years, this scholarship will be awarded to a second semester sophomore or junior majoring
in business education. The recipient must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5. Selection
is based upon scholarship, financial need, and good moral character.
Office/Service Dependents' Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help a dependent of a permanent full-time UNK Office/Service worker
employed during the academic term the scholarship is used. The student must be an
upperclassman having completed 28 or more hours, working towards a degree, and has
declared a major in one of the colleges. The student must be maintaining the minimum
cumulative GPA required for graduation from that college. Along with academic performance,
assessment of the student's need for assistance will be taken into consideration in the
awarding, as well as extracurricular activities and work experience.
Otto Olsen Industrial Arts Endowed Scholarship:
Established by former Kearney State Professor Otto Olsen, this scholarship will be awarded
to a sophomore or a junior student preparing to teach industrial technology. Contact the
Industrial Technology Department for applications and more information.
Omaha Federation of Advertising Endowed Scholarship:
Established to provide support for one or more undergraduate students enrolled in the
Department of Journalism/Mass Communication of the College of Fine Arts & Humanities
at UNK with a declared major in advertising or through concentration of course work in
advertising which clearly indicates a serious interest in an advertising career. The
recipients must be enrolled full-time and be in good standing with evidence of progress
toward a degree. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is encouraged, but not required.
Recipients shall have completed their first semester junior year of course work and have
participated in one or more of the following activities: "Meet with the Pros",
Student Member of OFA, or Student Chapter Member. Each applicant for this scholarship
shall submit a single page letter, signed by the applicant, listing educational
background, goals, and career desires, plus any other information the applicant feels
would be valuable for consideration. Letters of application must be received by the Omaha
Federation of Advertising Scholarship Committee by February 1 of each year.
Mr. and Mrs. Foster O'Quinn Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by Dr. Ann O'Quinn Young and Robert Young, this scholarship will be awarded to
a sophomore, junior, or senior student who has demonstrated leadership abilities and has
been involved with campus activities. Eligible students must have a cumulative GPA of at
least 2.8. Need will be a consideration, but not a qualification.
P.F.M. Food Service Endowed Scholarship:
Established to provide financial assistance to a student employee of PFM. To be eligible a
student must have completed twenty-four credit hours during the previous year, have and
maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or higher, and have worked an average of 12 hours a
week in Food Services the previous year. Selection criteria considered include past
academic achievement, job performance with PFM, and potential for future academic and
professional accomplishments. Although financial need may be considered, it should not be
the determinant factor. The recipient of the scholarship shall be selected by the
Scholarship Committee of UNK from a prioritized list of applicants provided by the PFM
Food Service Director.
H. Dale and Evelyn M. Park Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support students of UNK in the Department of Elementary Education.
Selection is based upon junior or senior status, past academic achievement, and
demonstrated potential for future academic and professional accomplishments.
Payne Family Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support one student of UNK in the Department of Business each year.
Recipients shall be selected by applications recommended by the Department of Business.
Recipients should be Business Administration majors with a 3.0 or better GPA.
E. Evelyn Peterson Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by a bequest from E. Evelyn Peterson to provide financial assistance to
students majoring in music. Selection will based upon ability and financial need. Contact
the Music Department for applications and more information.
Rod Peterson Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the friends and family of Rodney Peterson, this scholarship will be awarded
to a varsity baseball athlete from Nuckolls County, Nebraska. Contact the Athletic
Department for applications and more information.
Phi Tau Gamma Endowed Scholarship:
Established by Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) to help support students of UNK. Recipients should be
a son, daughter, grandson, or granddaughter of a member of a Phi Tau Gamma Alumni
(1915-1965) and a full-time student with a B average who meets the University academic
requirements. Recipients shall be selected from the names of applicants recommended by the
ATO Alumni "Board". This scholarship is for tuition and will be awarded for
second semester.
The Platte Valley State Bank and Trust Company Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support students of UNK in the Department of Business or
business-related area, i.e. mathematics, computer science, etc. Recipients must be a high
school graduate of Buffalo County or an adjacent county. Recipients should be a business,
mathematics, or computer science major with a 3.0 or better GPA.
Poehling-Talbert Endowed Scholarship:
Established to provide financial assistance to regularly enrolled undergraduate students.
Financial need and the academic qualifications of applicants will be used in awarding this
scholarship. First preference shall be given annually to one male and one female student
who are members of the graduating class of Valley (Nebraska) High School.
Pratt-Heins Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the Pratt-Heins Foundation to provide financial assistance to upperclass
students with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Eligible students must be residents of
Nebraska, and must have demonstrated leadership capabilities and general campus and
community involvement in prior years while attending UNK or other educational
institutions.
Preston and Gist Endowed Scholarship:
Established to provide financial assistance to an incoming freshman who is a graduate of
Humboldt High School, Humboldt, Nebraska. The recipient will be selected by the Humboldt
High School Scholarship Committee, from freshman scholarship applications submitted to
UNK. The scholarship is renewable based on a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better, for up to
three additional years. To apply for renewal, the UNK annual and endowed scholarship
application must be completed each spring.
Recyclers Ecology Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support full-time undergraduate students at UNK. Selection criteria
include having sophomore/junior/senior class standing, a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above,
and demonstrated interest in ecological concerns and/or being a biology or geography
major. This scholarship shall be for one academic year but may be renewed upon application
and satisfactory performance by the recipient.
Earl V. Redinger Endowed Memorial Scholarship:
Established to provide financial assistance to students of the University of Nebraska who
are in good standing, pursuing a degree program, and enrolled for nine hours or more.
Recipients shall be selected by the University-wide Scholarship Committee in consultation
with the Department of Human Resources, Metropolitan Utility Districts ("MUD"),
Omaha. Each recipient must be an employee, spouse or dependent of a current or former MUD
employee as documented by the Department of Human Resources, MUD. All scholarships are
awarded for one academic year, but may be renewed upon satisfactory performance.
Clarice A. Reynolds Endowed Scholarship:
Established by Clarice A. Reynolds, this scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring
in speech or English. Selection will be based upon academic achievement and financial
need.
Phyllis Roberts Endowed Scholarship:
Established by former Kearney State faculty member Phyllis Roberts and friends, this
scholarship will be awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior student majoring in fine arts
or humanities.
Walter A. and Alice V. Rockwell Endowed Scholarship in Education:
Established to help support full-time undergraduate students in the College of Education
at UNK. Selection criteria include being enrolled in the Department of Elementary
Education in the College of Education, of sophomore class standing or above, graduates of
a Nebraska High School, and having academic excellence. Preference shall be given to
students emphasizing course work in the area of early childhood education. Scholarships
shall be for one academic year, but may renewed upon application and satisfactory
performance by the recipient.
Jim Rundstrom Journalism Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support full-time undergraduate students in the College of Fine Arts
and Humanities at UNK. Selection criteria include being a junior or senior majoring in
Journalism or Public Relations, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. Financial need
shall not be considered. Scholarships shall be for one academic year but may be renewed
upon application and satisfactory performance by the recipient.
Calvin T. Ryan Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the friends and family of Calvin T. Ryan to be awarded to an English major
for the second semester. Selection is based upon scholarship (a cumulative GPA of at least
3.0), accomplishments, and professional goals.
Schrack Endowed Scholarship--In Honor of Hazel and Stella:
Established through a bequest of Hazel Schrack Wortman, in honor of Stella Schrack and
herself, to provide financial assistance to an incoming freshman majoring in family and
consumer science.
Richard Serbousek Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the friends and family of Richard Serbousek to provide financial assistance
to students preparing for a career in medicine or medical technology. First preference
shall be given to a graduate of Atkinson or Stuart High School, second preference to a
graduate of Hay Springs or Chadron High School, and third preference to a graduate of any
Nebraska high school.
Sigma Tau Delta Endowed Scholarship:
This scholarship will be awarded to a student who has completed 45 to 88 semester hours
and is majoring in English. The recipient must have an overall cumulative GPA of at least
2.8, and a GPA of at least 3.0 in English.
Southern California Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support students of UNK. Recipients must exceed the minimum academic
grade point requirements, have a student classification of a sophomore or above, and be
classified as a full-time student.
Mary Splitter Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by friends and family in memory of Mary Splitter, this scholarship will be
awarded to graduate student(s) studying in the field of counseling and guidance and
pursuing a career in Christian counseling. Contact the Counseling and School Psychology
Department for applications and more information.
Dr. LaVerne C. Steffens Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established to assist students of UNK, the recipient should be a well-rounded student who
evidences strong motivation (school activities, community service, scholarship and
leadership) and meets the following criteria: enrolled and accepted in the pre-medicine
program, sophomore or above classification, GPA of 3.0 or above. Residents of Nebraska
will receive first consideration.
Dr. Arthur L. Stegeman Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support students in the Department of Industrial Technology and/or
Athletics. Selection criteria considered are past academic achievement and demonstration
of potential for future academic and professional accomplishment. Financial need and
worthiness shall be a major consideration as well as the applicant's minority status (it
being the wish of the Donors that preference be given to minority students where
possible.)
William Stehlik Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by friends and family of William Stehlik, this scholarship will be awarded to
a student majoring in pre-pharmacy or pre-medicine. Eligible students must be graduates of
Nebraska high schools.
Dr. and Mrs. B. M. Stevenson Athletic Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support a student athlete at UNK. Past academic achievement plus
demonstration of potential for future academic and professional accomplishments shall be
used in the selection of recipients. Recipients are nominated by the coaches and athletic
director.
Humbert G. Stout and Cora Austin Stout Endowed Scholarship:
Established to provide scholarships within the UNK English Department. Selection of
recipients will be made by the UNK Scholarship Committee upon recommendations made by the
Department of English in the College of Fine Arts and Humanities.
Malvina Stoutemyer Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the friends and family of the late Mrs. Stoutemyer to provide financial
assistance to two worthy sophomore, junior, or senior students majoring in elementary
education.
Mike Stumpff Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the friends and family of Mike Stumpff, this scholarship is awarded to a
UNK student majoring in psychology. Contact the Psychology Department for applications and

Bernhard Stutheit Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the friends and family of Bernhard Stutheit, this scholarship will be
awarded to a junior or senior student majoring in English. The recipient must have a GPA
of at least 3.5 in his/her major field of study and a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25.
Lynn Thomas Athletic Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support athletes at UNK. Contact the Athletic Department for
applications and more information.
Emma Butz Tidball Scholarship:
Established to assist needy students who in their previous UNK studies or in the case of
students entering UNK by their records in high school or preparatory schools, have
demonstrated scholastic attainment and worthiness of character and purpose. Preference
shall be given to students who without this assistance might, because of physical
handicaps or lack of ordinary health, be unable to work their way through college and in
the absence of such assistance might be deprived of college education.
Riley McMillan Tidball Scholarship:
Established to assist needy students who in their previous UNK studies or in the case of
students entering UNK by their records in high school or preparatory schools, have
demonstrated scholastic attainment and worthiness of character and purpose. Preference
shall be given to students who without this assistance might, because of physical
handicaps or lack of ordinary health, be unable to work their way through college and in
the absence of such assistance might be deprived of college education.
Larry Vontz Endowed Scholarship:
Established to provide financial assistance to one or more full-time undergraduate
students in the UNK College of Education. Recipients shall be majoring in Teacher
Education, have freshman class standing or above, and shall be in good standing with
regard to the minimum GPA requirements of the College of Education to permit graduation.
Students considered shall be graduates of a Nebraska high school located in Boyd, Holt,
Wheeler, Greeley, Howard, Hall, Adams, or Webster County, or any other Nebraska county
located west of these counties. The recipients shall have expressed a desire to seek
employment in the area of elementary/secondary teaching in the state of Nebraska following
graduation. Financial need shall be a criteria. Recipients shall be determined by the
Scholarship Committee of the College of Education.
Shirley L. Walker Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
This scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in music. Contact the Music Department
for applications and more information.
Shirley L. (McPeck) Walker Panhellenic Endowed Scholarship:
Established to provide scholarships to female students at UNK without regard for need, but
to be based upon academics and activities.
Bert Wallace Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support students in athletics, with track to be given preference.
Recipients shall be recommended by the Athletic Director and coaches. Recipients must have
at least a 3.0 GPA, or if a freshman, be in the top 20% of their high school graduating
class.
Tammi J. (Rowe) Warner Counseling and School Psychology Endowed Scholarship:
Established for graduate students majoring in counseling and school psychology. Recipient
shall have attained a minimum GPA of 3.0. Selection of the recipient will be made by the
UNK Scholarship Committee upon recommendation from the Department of Counseling and School
Psychology at UNK.
Randy and Sw'art Watkins Endowed Scholarship:
Established by former Kearney State coach, Randy Watkins, and his wife to provide
financial assistance to an undergraduate student majoring in health, physical education,
recreation, or leisure studies. Selection will be based on academic achievement.
Harold E. Willey Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Awarded to a child of a Nebraska farmer, rancher, or persons in an agricultural-related
business. The recipient should have an academic level of a sophomore or above with a
"B" (3.0) GPA.
Carol "Sweley" Windhorst Endowed Scholarship:
Established by M.D. "Dan" Windhorst to help support students of UNK in the
Elementary and/or Special Education Department. Recipient should have a minimum 2.5 GPA.
Preference shall be given to students in the Alpha Phi Sorority. In the event an Alpha Phi
does not receive this scholarship, then the recipient may be either a male or female
student of sophomore status or above and/or graduate student who meets the academic
requirements of teacher education.
Sue Stoetzel Withycombe Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support students of UNK who might be displaced from agricultural
occupations by adverse circumstances (but the donors do not impose this as an absolute
requirement). Selection criteria considered includes past academic achievement and
demonstration of potential for future academic and professional accomplishments.
Miriam A. Worlock Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the family of Miriam A. Worlock to provide financial assistance to a junior
or senior student majoring in art. Eligible students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in
their discipline. Selection will be based on talent and financial need. Recipients are
chosen by the Art Department.
Al and Verlene Zikmund Athletic Endowed Scholarship:
Established to help support students enrolled at UNK. Recipients must have a student
classification of sophomore or above and be a member of the varsity football team.
Recipients shall be selected by the football coaches and athletic director of UNK.
Recipient is to be academically eligible and remain so to participate in athletics and be
moving toward graduating with a degree from UNK. Contact the Athletic Department for
