An annual scholarship is one whose funds are provided "yearly" by some organization, business, group, or individual for UNK students. Eligible students may apply for the following annual scholarships through the University of Nebraska at Kearney Office of Financial Aid, unless otherwise specified. Applications are taken early in the second semester for the majority of these annual scholarships.
Alpha Phi Alumnae Scholarship:
This scholarship will be awarded to a junior or senior Alpha Phi. Selection will be based
upon financial need, academic achievement, and participation in extracurricular
activities. Contact the Alpha Phi sorority for applications and more information.
American Association of University Women -- Kearney Branch Scholarship:
Established by the Kearney branch of AAUW to be awarded with preference given to
nontraditional students, preferably in their junior or senior year. The recipient should
have a B average.
Association of Retarded Citizens -- Central Nebraska Project Scholarship:
Awarded to a junior or senior special education major or a person earning a second degree
in special education. Recipient shall have a minimum GPA of 2.75. Seventy-five percent of
the criteria for selection shall be based on financial need
Edith Beechel Scholarship:
These scholarships will be awarded to students who are residents of Colorado. Selection
will be based on academic achievement
Buffalo County Home Economists Scholarship:
Awarded to a college sophomore, junior, or senior with a major in Family and Consumer
Science. Recipient must be a Buffalo County native or a UNK student. Selection is based on
scholastic performance, college activities, financial need, and professional goals
Centennial Towers West Scholarship:
This scholarship will be awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior student who is a
resident of Centennial Towers West. The recipient must have a cumulative GPA of at least
2.5. Selection will be based upon financial need and participation in campus activities
Deanna DeLaet Memorial/Martin Hall Scholarship:
Established to provide financial assistance to a resident of Martin Hall who is active in
hall activities and has a positive attitude about living in the residence halls. The
Martin Hall Council Executives will screen candidates and rate them. The Financial
Committee will make the final decision on the recipient. An essay is required on:
"Why I'm supportive in the hall and What I will do in the hall if I receive the
scholarship." This essay must be submitted with the annual and endowed scholarship
application
Delta Kappa Gamma Grants-In-Aid Scholarship:
This scholarship will be awarded to a female student who is entering the junior or senior
year and is enrolled in a teacher education program. The recipient must be a resident of
Nebraska and have completed 70 credit hours. Applicants should have a good scholastic
record and exemplify high standards for teaching
Emick-Masonic Youth Scholarship:
This scholarship will be awarded to a UNK student who is a resident of Nebraska and active
in one of the following Masonic youth organizations: Demolay, Job's Daughters, or Rainbow
Girls. The recipient must show a respectable scholastic record. For further information

Faculty Wive's Scholarship:
Awarded to two students attending UNK full-time, either undergraduate or graduate, and who
have a parent or guardian on faculty. Other items considered include GPA, on and off
campus activities, and class rank. Scholarships are selected and awarded by the College
Service Committee of Faculty Wives
First Federal Lincoln--F. Keith Cottrell Scholarship:
Established in memory of F. Keith Cottrell, these scholarships will be awarded to a female
and a male athlete at UNK. The recipients must be entering their final year and be
residents of Nebraska. Selection will be based upon financial need, and the scholarships
will be rotated each year to athletes in different sports. Contact the Athletic Department

The Reverend Don Hogan FCA Scholarship:
This scholarship will be awarded to a junior or senior student who is a member of the
Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Selection will be based upon FCA participation, athletic
performance, academic achievements, and participation in campus activities. This
scholarship will be awarded for second semester
Kappa Delta Pi Scholarship:
This scholarship will be awarded to a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Education Honorary
Fraternity. The recipient must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Selection will be
based on academic achievement and involvement in campus activities. The scholarship will
be awarded when funds are available
Kappa Omicron Nu Scholarship:
This scholarship will be awarded to a junior or senior student with a major in family and
consumer science. The recipient must be a member of honorary--KONU and have a cumulative
GPA of at least 3.0. Selection will be based on academic achievement and involvement in
campus activities
Kappa Pi Art Scholarship:
This scholarship will be awarded to a junior or senior student with a major in art. The
award will be made for second semester. Contact the Art Department for applications and

Kearney Area Business & Professional Women's Club Scholarship:
This scholarship will be awarded to a female who is a sophomore, junior, or senior student
who has declared their major. The recipient must be a graduate of a Buffalo County high
school and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Selection will be based upon scholarship
and financial need
Kearney Area Eagles Scholarship:
These scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors who are attending
UNK. One scholarship will be awarded to a graduate of a Kearney high school and the other
will be awarded to a graduating senior of a high school within a 25 mile radius of
Kearney. The recipients must be in the upper third of their graduating class and
demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to students who are the son/daughter
of an Eagle
Kearney BPO Does Scholarship:
These scholarships will be awarded to female graduates of Kearney High or Kearney
Catholic. Selection is based upon financial need. Contact either high school for

Kearney Cosmopolitan Club Scholarship:
This scholarship will be awarded to an upperclass student majoring in music with the
intent of becoming a music teacher
Kearney Hub/Journalism Scholarship:
These scholarships will be awarded to upperclass students majoring in journalism.
Selection is based upon potential as a journalist, contributions to student publications,
and interest in the newspaper field
Kearney LESA Scholarship:
This scholarship was established by the Kearney Law Enforcement Spouses Association to
provide financial assistance to a junior or senior criminal justice major, with a focus in
law enforcement. The recipient must be enrolled for at least 9 hours each semester the
scholarship is received
Kearney Noon Kiwanis Club Scholarship:
This scholarship will be awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior student with a
preference given to members of the Circle K Club. The recipient must have a cumulative GPA
of at least 2.5
Kearney Rotary Club Scholarship:
This scholarship will be awarded to a graduate of Kearney High or Kearney Catholic.
Selection will be based upon scholarship, financial need, and participation in school

John G. Lowe, Sr. Scholarship:
This scholarship will be awarded to an upperclass student who is a rural resident of
Buffalo or Kearney counties. Selection will be based upon financial need and scholastic
achievement
Micro-Telecommunications Scholarship:
This scholarship will be awarded to a junior at UNK who is majoring in music, business or
computer science. The recipient must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
Nebraska Congress of Parents and Teachers Association Scholarship:
These scholarships will be awarded to sophomore, junior, or senior students enrolled in
teacher education. The student must be a resident of Nebraska and have a cumulative GPA of
at least 2.0. The award will be made for second semester. New Mexicans for Nebraska
Scholarship:
Established to provide financial assistance to a full-time undergraduate students enrolled
at any campus of the University of Nebraska. The recipient shall be either an incoming
freshman or returning undergraduate student, with preference given to incoming freshmen.
The recipient shall have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above. Preference shall be given to
graduates of New Mexico high schools. High academic standing shall be a criterion in
making this award. Scholarships shall be for one academic year only. The recipient of this
scholarship will be determined by the University-wide Scholarship Committee of the
University of Nebraska
Northwest Rotary Club of Omaha - (Jill Garlock Memorial) Scholarship:
Sponsored by the Northwest Rotary Club of Omaha, this scholarship is awarded to a junior
physical education major. Selection is based upon cumulative GPA. This scholarship may be
renewable if the student maintains their GPA and continues attending the University of
Nebraska at Kearney
Phi Beta Lambda Scholarship:
This scholarship will be awarded to a member of Phi Beta Lambda with fifteen hours
inclusive of business or related courses. The recipient must have a cumulative GPA of at
least 2.5
Residence Hall Association Scholarship:
This scholarship will be awarded to a UNK student who meets all the criteria. Must be
currently living in a hall and must live in a hall the year the scholarship is received.
The recipient must be active in Hall Council and/or Residence Hall Association, have a
cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better, and demonstrate financial need
Myron Scott Memorial Scholarship:
Established by a bequest in the will of the late Myron Scott in memory of his parents,
Thomas Jefferson Scott and Mary Estello Grant Scott, these scholarships will be awarded to
UNK students who were born in and attended high school in Buffalo County. Preference will
be given to students who demonstrate ability in the arts or sciences, particularly the
graphic arts or political science
Jane and Leroy Smith Sculpture Scholarship:
Awarded annually to the student submitting the best bronze sculpture. Normally awarded to
a student in his or her junior year. Selection of the recipient shall be by the faculty in
the Department of Art. The student will provide a bronze work to the donors of the
scholarship for a collection to be returned to the University and stored in the Department
of Art
Society of Nebraska Admirals Scholarship:
Established to provide financial assistance to a senior majoring in Travel and Tourism
Spurs Scholarship:
This scholarship will be awarded to a student who is a member of SPURS with a cumulative
GPA of at least 2.8. Selection will be based upon scholastic ability, leadership, and
financial need
Student Alumni Board Scholarship:
These scholarships are awarded to freshmen students. Selection is based on scholarship,
leadership, and participation in activities at UNK. Contact the Alumni Office for

UNK Women's Association Scholarship:
This scholarship will be awarded to an upperclass female student. Selection will be based
upon academic achievement, participation in campus activities and career goals
Milton G. Waldbaum Scholarship:
The scholarship will be awarded by the University-wide Scholarship Committee to an
undergraduate student at UNK. The recipient must be a child or a grandchild of a person
employed by the Milton G. Waldbaum Company of Wakefield, Nebraska, for a continuous two
year period during the years 1950 through 1988, inclusive. If there are no eligible
candidates in the above category, the scholarship may be awarded to an otherwise qualified
applicant who is a resident of Wakefield, Nebraska. Must be a student in good standing,
pursuing a degree program, and enrolled for nine hours or more. Descendants of Milton G.
Waldbaum and his spouse and Daniel W. Gardner and his spouse are not eligible to receive a
scholarship. A letter of application, including educational background, career goals and
the identity of the relative that qualifies a student for consideration, must be received
in the Office of Financial Aid by April 1. Applicants may reapply each year
West Central Nebraska Homebuilders Association Scholarship:
This scholarship will be awarded to a freshman or sophomore student majoring in industrial
technology. Preference will be given to those students with high GPA's and notable
previous performance in industrial technology. Contact the Industrial Technology

West Kar Service Club Scholarship:
This scholarship will be awarded to a full-time incoming freshman student who is a
dependent of a Kearney West Company employee. Selection will be based upon academic
achievement, participation in campus activities, and financial need. Contact the West
