Communication Disorders Minor

The minor in Communication Disorders provides basic information about human communication development and disorders. It is appropriate for students majoring in elementary and special education, psychology, human development, and social work. An individual with a minor in Communication Disorders cannot be employed as a speech-language pathologist, audiologist, or speech-language pathology assistant.

Minimum hours required for minor = 24

  1. Requirements (14 hours required)
    • Take all of the following:
      • CDIS 210, Survey of Communication Disorders - 3 hours
      • CDIS 252, Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech Mechanism - 3 hours
      • CDIS 261, Normal Language Development - 3 hours
      • CDIS 354, Preschool Language Disorders - 3 hours
      • CDIS 406, Adult Communication Disorders - 2 hours
  2. Electives (10 hours required)
