(The following are the requirements for the BGS degree program. It should not be confused with the General Studies program which is a component of all undergraduate degrees. See the General Studies Information section of this catalog.)
- Minimum General Studies = 45
- English Language minimum = 9
- Humanities minimum = 9
- Mathematics, Statistics & Computer Science minimum = 3
- Natural Sciences minimum = 7
- Social and Behavioral Sciences minimum = 9
- Personal Development minimum = 2
General Studies Distribution Requirement = 45
- Minimum total hours required coursework = 90
- Unrestricted electives in 125 hour program = 35
- As 6 hours of the Distribution requirements may overlap with the General Studies Program, the total unrestricted electives may be 41.
Minimum total hours required for BGS in General Studies = 125
- Forty (40) of the 125 hours required for the BGS must be upper division hours, which are courses numbered 300 or above taken at a 4-year college or university.
- (At least a 2.5 GPA required in the Distribution courses.)
Take ONE of the following two options:
- (All individual programs must be approved by the Bachelor of General Studies advisor.)
- A. General Studies Option 1 (45 hours required)
- Take at least 15 hours in THREE of the five areas listed.
1. Fine Arts
- Take 15 hours from: Music, Dance, Art, or Theatre.
- 2. Humanities
- Take 15 hours from: English, Philosophy, Journalism, or Speech.
- 3. Foreign Language
- Take 15 hours from: French, German, or Spanish.
- 4. Social Science
- Take 15 hours from: Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, History, Economics, or Cultural Geography.
- 5. Natural Science
- Take 15 hours from: Math, Chemistry, Physics and Physical Science, Earth Science, Biology, or Computer Science.
B. General Studies Option 2 (45 hours required)
- Take at least 30 hours in ONE of the following areas, and 15 hours in another of the five areas listed.
- 1. Fine Arts
- Take 15 to 30 hours from: Music, Dance, Art, or Theatre.
- 2. Humanities
- Take 15 to 30 hours from: English, Philosophy, Journalism, or Speech.
- 3. Foreign Language
- Take 15 to 30 hours from: French, German, or Spanish.
- 4. Social Sciences
- Take 15 to 30 hours from: Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, History, Economics, or Cultural Geography.
- 5. Natural Sciences
- Take 15 to 30 hours from: Math, Chemistry, Physics and Physical Science, Earth Science, Biology, or Computer Science.
