Courses (PTE)
- 101. Teaching as a Career - 1 hour
- This is an elective course. Students will (1) explore teaching as a career, (2) assess
their potential for success in teaching, and (3) study current and predicted employment
opportunities for teachers. (Grading A-F)
- 200. Developmental Behavior - 3 hours
- A study of human behavior as it relates to physical and psychological growth and
development, especially in the context of schools. Students will survey a variety of
psychological growth models for use in understanding and interpreting behavior in the
educational process. PTE 290 is required to be taken in
conjunction with PTE 200. (Grading A-F)
- 210. Field-Based Teacher Education Program - 0 hours
- Students enrolled in the Field-Based Teacher Education Program and Early Training Center
are requested to register for this course which acknowledges participation in the program.

- 290. Field Experience: Human Services - 1 hour
- The student will be assigned to a human service agency that works with
elementary/secondary youth. Taken in conjunction with PTE 200.

- 300. Learning and Evaluation - 3 hours
- Prerequisite: PTE 200. The course is a study of human
learning and its evaluation. The student will examine factors, both internal to the
learner (e.g., intelligence, motivation, learning style) and external to the learner (e.g.
teaching strategies, interactive classroom environment) that relate to or affect the
learnerĖs school performance. (Grading A-F) PTE 390 is required to be taken in
conjunction with PTE 300.
- 390. A-B-C-D-E. Pre-Student Teaching Field Experience - 1 hour
- Prerequisite: PTE 290. The student will be assigned to a
classroom in a school system, working under the direction of a specific teacher or
teachers. (Credit/No Credit) Taken in conjunction with PTE 300.
- 400E. Supervised Student Teaching in the Elementary School - 3-15
hours
- Prerequisites: PTE 464, elementary methods courses, and
admission to Teacher Education. Students are to check their eligibility and the
appropriate credit hours for their respective degree programs with their advisors.
Application forms are to be filed on or before February 1 to be eligible for an assignment
the following academic year. (Credit/No Credit)
- 400EC. Supervised Student Teaching in Preschool - 3-15 hours
- Prerequisites: PTE 464, methods courses and admission to
Teacher Education. Designed to provide observation and supervised participation in
approved early childhood programs. (Credit/No Credit)
- 400ECSE. Preschool Children with Disabilities - 3 hours
- Prerequisites: PTE 464 and admission to Teacher Education
Early Childhood Core and Specialized courses. Designed to provide observation and
supervised teaching in approved early childhood centers which enroll a typical child.

- 400S. Supervised Student Teaching in the - 3-15 hours
- Secondary School Prerequisite: PTE 464, methods course in
major, and admission to Teacher Education. Students who have earned a minimum of 89 hours
and wish to teach at the secondary level, must apply to the Dean, College of Education on
or before February 1 in order to be eligible for assignment to student teaching the
following academic year. (Credit/No Credit)
- 400M/M. Supervised Student Teaching of Children with Mild/Moderate
Disabilities 6-15 hours
- Prerequisites: PTE 464, SPED 475
and admission to Teacher Education. Designed to provide observation and supervised
participation in classroom teaching of students with mild/moderate disabilities.
(Credit/No Credit)
- 400S/M. Supervised Student Teaching of Children with Severe/Multiple
Disabilities - 6-15 hours
- Prerequisites: PTE 464, SPED 475
and admission to Teacher Education. Designed to provide observation and supervised
participation in classroom teaching of students with multiple disabilities. (Credit/No
Credit)
- 400PS. Education - 6-15 hours
- Student teaching in technical community colleges. Designed for persons pursuing a
Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education degree. Arrangements are to be made with the
Director, Center for Vocational Education. (Credit/No Credit)
- 430/530. Comparative Education Field Study - 1-3 hours
- Designed to give opportunities for study of the educational systems in selected areas of
the world. May be taken for personal interest, professional growth, or application on a
degree program. Students desiring to include this course in a degree program should
consult their advisor. Inquiries for tours planned for a specific session should be
directed to the Dean of the College of Education. Credit/no credit.
- 464. Contemporary Issues in Education 2 hours
- Prerequisites: PTE 200, PTE 300,
and admission to Teacher Education Program. This course will provide understanding of the
schoolŲits organization, administration, financing, and the relationship of the school
and the teacher to the community, the state and the nation. This course is to be completed
prior to student teaching. (Grading A-F)
