Mission:
The mission of Family Studies and Interior Design is to enable families, both as individual
units and generally as a social institution to build and maintain systems of action which
lead (1) to maturing in individual self formation, (2) to encourage enlightened,
cooperative participation in the critique and formation of social goals and means of
accomplishing them; and (3) to enable individuals to be critically aware of consumer
resources and their management as well as to develop the competence to base actions upon
rational, responsible decisions. (The Department's mission statement is adopted in part
from the Mission Statement of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.)
All students completing a major or minor in the department will be required to earn a "C" or better grade in all FSID courses in the major or minor.
All students graduating with a degree from the College of Business and Technology must take at least 50% of their major area credit hour requirements from the College of Business and Technology at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
All students graduating with a degree from the College of Business and Technology must take a minimum of 30 of their last 36 hours of credit needed for their degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
Two options are available in this major:
Family Studies and Interior Design offers the Family Studies minor.
Courses with the prefix FSID are offered by the department.
