all UNK degrees must be upper division hours, which are courses numbered 300 or above
taken at a 4-year college or university.
- A. Respiratory Therapy Comprehensive Requirements (12 hours required)
- Take all of the following:
- BIOL 325, Medical Terminology - 1 hour
- BIOL 360, Genetics - 4 hours
- BIOL 400, Microbiology - 4 hours
HSCI 125G, Orientation to Respiratory Therapy - 1 hour
- Take one from the following non-field biology courses:
- BIOL 107GS, General Zoology - 4 hours
- BIOL 309, Cellular Biology - 4 hours (Prereq: CHEM 161, CHEM 161L, and CHEM 250; or CHEM 360, CHEM 360L, CHEM 361 and CHEM 361L)
- BIOL 401, Principles of Immunology - 4 hours
- BIOL 404, Developmental Biology - 3 hours (Prereq: BIOL 104GS, BIOL 107GS or
equivalent, and one year of Chemistry)
- BIOL 450, Molecular Biology I - 4 hours (Prereq: BIOL 309, BIOL 360 and CHEM 351)
- BIOL 465, Physiology - 3 hours (Prereq: BIOL 107GS, BIOL 309, CHEM 161, CHEM 161L and
organic chemistry)
- BIOL 485, Advanced Genetics - 3 hours (Prereq: BIOL 360 or BIOL 461)
- B. Respiratory Therapy Comprehensive Electives (20 hours required)
- Students must take a total of 90 hours including General Studies and BS
Science-related course requirements and Respiratory Therapy Comprehensive Requirements and
Electives; minimum elective hours = 21.
- Take approved electives from BIOL, CHEM,
PHYS, PSY, CSIS
and MATH.
- (Elective hours may include the prerequisites needed for upper level courses. FCSC 110, Introduction to Nutrition, is also an approved
elective.)
- C. Clinical Year. (35-37 hours required)
- Students' fourth year will be their Clinical Year at an affiliated School of Respiratory
Therapy. Admission to an affiliated school is very competitive and not guaranteed.
