ASSESSMENT PLAN
Students work for a semester with a company or industry in their field. A department
coordinator meets with the students as well as their supervisors to receive feedback
regarding the students performance. |
2000-2001 ASSESSMENT
Comments from the companies concerning better communications between the Department
and companies were discussed. As a result of these comments the Department hired a
half-time internship coordinator to assist the companies and the students. This
persons duties will start Aug. 20, 2001. |
1999-2000 ASSESSMENT
Comments from the companies concerning the internship will be carried forward and combined
with comments from next year before an effort will be made to determine if the internship
needs to be changed. It is best to have two years of data to make these decisions. |
1998-99 ASSESSMENT
The feedback from the employers concerning the UNK students was very favorable.In order to enhance our internship offerings, the
internship coordinator made an attempt to inform many companies in the Construction
industry (who were on campus recruiting department graduates) about the potential student
internship opportunities. |
1997-98 ASSESSMENT
The information from people working with our students while they are on an internship is
being used to determine the strengths of the students and evaluate the internship
curriculum. As a result of this process, the capstone courses have been modified as noted
in the Capstone Course section of this assessment report. |
1996-97 ASSESSMENT
Information concerning student performance during their internship is collected by the
Department internship coordinator and relayed to faculty members. This information has
been very helpful in determining the direction of the Department. The Telecommunications
Program and the Industrial Distribution Programs were changed in minor ways to meet the
demand of employers. The capstone courses were changed to a WI standing. This will assist
the students in writing materials that are needed by the companies that they work with. |
1995-96 ASSESSMENT
The internship coordinator has continued to meet with the students and employers each
semester with the intent of improving the curriculum.. The employers give an oral
evaluation to the coordinator and also complete a written evaluation of the internship at
the mid-term and end of each term. Each student also has to complete an evaluation at the
end of the internship. This information is then passed along to the faculty members
teaching in the Department. The Department has allowed the faculty members to make the
necessary changes to the individual courses as deemed necessary. The internship
coordinator meets with the companies and students each semester and transfers this
information to the faculty like in past years. Changes made to improve the degree programs
based on this feedback include increased product knowledge, more computer scheduling, and
increased technical knowledge. |
1994-95 ASSESSMENT
The internship coordinator met with all companies that employed students to assess
strength and weakness of the students as they leave the program. Reports were made to the
faculty at department meetings concerning the findings of the coordinator. The information
was used by the faculty members to strengthen the curriculum. For example, construction
management has included more technical information on concrete construction; industrial
distribution emphasized hydraulics to a greater extent, and telecommunications management
strengthened its electronics section. |
1993-94 ASSESSMENT
The students demonstrated a good work ethic according to the employers. Their technology
skills also were a strength of the program. More employers will be seeking our graduates
due to the positive experience reported by the internship coordinators. |
