STAT 235 - Statistical Techniques for Research I - 3 hours
Prereq: MATH 101 or equivalent
An introduction to statistics for educational and sociological research. The course will include descriptive statistics, normal distribution and an introduction to correlation and hypothesis testing.

STAT 241 - Elementary Statistics - 3 hours
Prereq: MATH 101 or equivalent
An introduction to statistical concepts and methods. Not open to department majors.

STAT 345 - Applied Statistics I - 3 hours
Prereq: MATH 102, MATH 103; MATH 115 or MATH 123
Descriptive statistics; statistical inference using the binomial, normal, F and Chi Square distributions; and analysis of variance topics. Recommended for departmental majors as the beginning applied statistics course.

STAT 399 - Internship - 1-4 hours
Prereq: MATH 102, MATH 103; MATH 115 or MATH 123
On the job experience designed to complement the major. Internships are available only in selected areas. Consult with departmental advisor. STAT 399 is a credit/no credit course.

STAT 432/832P - Survey Sampling Techniques - 3 hours
Prereq: STAT 241 or equivalent
Introduction to planning, execution and analysis of surveys, methods of sampling, estimation of population values, and efficiency of methods.

STAT 437/837P - Computer Analysis of Statistical Data - 3 hours
Prereq: One computer course; STAT 241;
or MATH 102, MATH 103; MATH 115 or MATH 123; STAT 345
The analysis of data taken from the social sciences. The computer will be a tool for the course.

STAT 441/841P - Probability and Statistics - 3 hours
Prereq: MATH 102, MATH 103, MATH 115, MATH 202, MATH 260
The mathematical development of discrete and continuous probability distributions including multivariate distributions, moments and moment generating functions, the special discrete and continuous probability distributions, the normal distribution, sampling distributions, and hypothesis testing.

STAT 442/842P - Mathematical Statistics - 3 hours
Prereq: MATH 102, MATH 103, MATH 115, MATH 202, MATH 260, STAT 441
A continuation of 441/841P. The further mathematical development of special probability densities, functions of random variables, sampling distributions, decision theory, point and interval estimators, hypotheses testing, and covariance.

STAT 445/845P - Applied Statistics II - 3 hours
Prereq: MATH 102, MATH 103; MATH 115 or MATH 123, STAT 345 or equivalent
Inferences from small samples, linear regression and correlation, introduction to experimental designs, analysis of variance, analysis of covariance, statistical efficiency and errors.

STAT 446/846P - Nonparametric Statistics - 3 hours
Prereq: STAT 241; or MATH 102, MATH 103; MATH 115 or MATH 123, STAT 345 or equivalent
An applied study of many of the nonparametric tests currently in use in statistics.

STAT 448/848P - Regression Analysis - 3 hours
Prereq: one computer class. MATH 102, MATH 103; MATH 115 or MATH 123 or equivalent
Computer-oriented statistical methods involving concepts and techniques for experimental research. Application of the following methods on a digital computer: Estimating parameters and testing hypotheses about them, linear least squares, analysis of variance and covariance, multiple linear regression, and piecewise linear regression.

STAT 449/849P - Problems in Statistics - 1 hour
Prereq: MATH 102, MATH 103, MATH 115, MATH 202, MATH 260, STAT 441, STAT 442
Solving of problems from probability and statistics. Will aid a student in Preliminary Actuarial Examination, Part II.

STAT 455/855P - Statistical Quality Control - 3 hours
Prereq: STAT 241;
or MATH 102, MATH 103; MATH 115 or MATH 123; STAT 345
An introduction to statistical methods for controlling quality and productivity of products and services including acceptance sampling, control charts, and process-control techniques.

STAT 490/890P - Special Topics in Statistics - 3 hours
Prereq: none
This course consists of related topics chosen from the areas of statistics appropriate to the student's program and will involve both formal lectures and independent study.

STAT 495/895P - Independent Study in Statistics - 1-3 hours
Prereq: permission
An individual investigation by the student of topics not included in the normal statistics offerings.

STAT 496/896P - Statistics Seminar - 1 hour
Prereq: permission
Topics not included in the normal statistics offerings are presented by the students.
