CLASSIFICATION OF NON-RESIDENTS FOR ADMISSION AND FEE ASSESSMENT

General:
The statutes of Nebraska provide that all state educational institutions shall charge a nonresident fee for each nonresident of Nebraska who matriculates at any state institution. Nonresident status is determined in accordance with these statutes and current institution policies, and is based upon evidence provided in the application for admission and related documents. Additional written documents, affidavits, verification or other evidence may be required as deemed necessary to establish the status of any applicant. The burden of establishing exemption from nonresident fees is the responsibility of the student. Erroneous classification as a resident or willful evasion of nonresident fees may result in disciplinary action as well as payment of required fees for each semester attended.

Change of Status:
A student classified as a nonresident retains this status until he/she is officially approved for reclassification as a resident by completing an Application for Residency Classification Form which is available in the Admissions Office. A student classified as a resident but who becomes a nonresident as provided by the statutes shall notify the Director of Admissions of such change promptly. Residency status may be challenged when there are found to exist circumstances indicating a change of legal residence. Any sanctioned change of classification from nonresident to resident will not be made retroactive beyond the period in which the change is approved.
