Department Objectives:
- To acquaint the student with organized knowledge in various areas within the field of communication arts and sciences;
- To train the student as a practitioner of the art and science of speech and theatre, able to assume leadership roles in his or her profession, his or her community, and his or her day-by-day social relationships with others;
- To train students in the development and performance of the original drama;
- To prepare well-qualified students to become teachers of speech and theatre;
- To foster research in speech/theatre and cognate fields.
SPEECH MAJOR
Five Options are available in this major:
- I. Organizational Communication Comprehensive Option - Bachelor of Science Degree
II. Speech Communication Option - Bachelor of Arts Degree or Speech Communication Option - Bachelor of Science Degree
III. Speech Communication Comprehensive Option - Bachelor of Science Degree
IV. Speech-Theatre Teaching Subject Endorsement Option - Bachelor of Arts in Education Degree
V. Speech Communication Teaching Subject Endorsement Option - Bachelor of Arts in Education Degree
A minor in Organizational Communication, or Speech Communication is available for students pursuing majors in other disciplines. The Elementary Education major has a specially defined minor in Speech/Theatre.
THEATRE MAJOR
Three Options are available in this major:
- I. Theatre Option - Bachelor of Arts Degree
II. Theatre Arts Option -
Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree
III. Theatre Teaching Subject Endorsement Option - Bachelor of Arts in Education Degree
A minor in Performance Studies or Theatre is available for students pursuing majors in other disciplines.
Courses with the prefixes SPCH and THEA are offered by the department.
