Prereq: none
Students will be introduced to career opportunities, and encouraged to explore career options. Once students are familiar with various degree programs they will develop a long range plan for achieving their career goal(s).
 
ITEC 114 - Introduction to Industrial Distribution - 1 hour
Prereq: none
This introduction to industrial distribution describes the model used by the University of Nebraska at Kearney to educate persons seeking careers in sales of engineered products. It will introduce students to current issues and historical events in the industrial distribution field. It will cover career opportunities, salary and compensation surveys, and future trends.
 
ITEC 120 - Engineering Design Graphics - 3 hours
Prereq: none
The course is designed as a beginning college level introduction to the use of design graphics and computer modeling for the purpose of solving technical problems.
 
ITEC 122 - Architectural Drafting & Design - 3 hours
Prereq: none
This course is designed to meet the needs of the Family and Consumer Science major with an emphasis in Interior Design . Specific methods applicable to the major's degree program and an introduction to computer aided drafting and design are included.
 
ITEC 130 - Technology Today - 3 hours
Prereq: none
This course will explore the history and evolution of technology and technological systems. Hands-on problem solving activities will introduce students to such areas as robotics, CADD, automation, lasers, CNC machines, telecommunications, electricity, desktop publishing, audio/video.
 
ITEC 140 - Principles of Technology - 3 hours
Prereq: none
Students will be introduced to scientific principles which will provide the basis for understanding technology through the use of hands-on laboratory and classroom experiences. Content areas will include force, work, rate, resistance, energy, power, and force transformers.
 
ITEC 150GS - Telecommunication Literacy - 3 hours
Prereq: none
A brief examination of some of the areas that comprise telecommunications. These include telephones, telephone systems, teleconferencing, telemarketing, electronic mail, networks, data communications and security.
 
ITEC 160 - Craft Fundamentals - 3 hours
Prereq: none
An introductory course involving basic craft materials, techniques and processes. Primarily for students majoring in other fields.
 
ITEC 205 - Computer-Aided Drafting - 3 hours
Prereq: ITEC 120
Computer aided drafting and design is a beginning electronic drafting course designed to develop a working knowledge of CADD and the hardware required for a CADD system.
 
ITEC 210GS - Society and Technology - 3 hours
Prereq: none
The course will introduce students to the impact that technology has had on culture, work roles, religious values, medical advancements, family roles, communication, manufacturing, education, and the environment. A time line describing the historical development of technology will be developed in an effort to provide a definition for the term technology.
 
ITEC 211GS - Alternate Energy and Technology - 3 hours
Prereq: none
The course will discuss such topics as renewable/inexhaustible energy sources , nonrenewable energy sources, conservation and legislative issues relating to energy , environmental impacts and wise choices for consumption of energy in everyday life.
 
ITEC 220 - Electricity/Electronics - 3 hours
Prereq: ITEC 140
This course will provide an overview of the fundamentals of electricity/electronics. This is a foundation course for students entering the field of Industrial Technology and will provide the necessary working knowledge required for automation systems, telecommunications, residential/commercial wiring, and computer based electronics.
 
ITEC 240 - Construction Planning and Design - 3 hours
Prereq: ITEC 120
This course will explore the design and construction methods of residential structures. A single family residence will be developed, drawn and analyzed. The fundamentals of these construction methods and techniques will be reinforced with various lab activities, e.g. concrete, framing, and roofing.
 
ITEC 251 - Manufacturing: Materials and Processes - 3 hours
Prereq: none
A study of modern manufacturing based on the production of parts and assemblies by means of various processes and methods.
 
ITEC 283 - Fluid Power - 3 hours
Prereq: ITEC 140
The course is designed to cover the nature of fluids and gas under pressure, the transmission of power by fluid and gas , the design of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and automatic control of these systems.
 
ITEC 308 - Industrial Management - 3 hours
Prereq: none
Designed to present specific functions, resources, techniques and responsibilities associated with the various phases of industrial management.
 
ITEC 330 - Electronic Telecommunications Equipment - 3 hours
Prereq: ITEC 150 To provide students an insight into the "real world" of the telecommunications industry. Introduces telecommunications applications and commonly used vendor equipment. Includes a description of current events and their significance to the industry.
 
ITEC 335 - Telecommunications Basic Concepts - 3 hours
Prereq: ITEC 150 Examines basic technical and applicable issues in telecommunications systems. Voice, video, and data transmission media are examined in terms of technical capabilities and functions.
 
ITEC 341 - Construction: Electro/Mechanical Systems - 3 hours
Prereq: ITEC 240
The course will include the basic construction practices included in all phases of the industry dealing with the electro and mechanical systems of structures. Specifically electrical systems, heating systems, cooling systems, and plumbing systems.
 
ITEC 345 - Transmission Systems in Communication - 3 hours
Prereq: ITEC 335
To teach students the basic fundamentals of transmission systems. Upon completion of this course students should be able to choose the most efficient and cost effective transmission medium for communication circuits and be able to design the link based on the data to be transmitted and the environment.
 
ITEC 351 - Manufacturing: Production and Design - 3 hours
Prereq: ITEC 120 Manufacturing and management strategies utilizing materials, machine controls, and automation to create products, systems, and packaging requirements. Skill development in design, R&D, model analysis, and conversion into finished designs is also emphasized.
 
ITEC 382 - Applied Electronics - 3 hours
Prereq: PHYS 206 or ITEC 220
The course will deal specifically with analog circuitry and the various applications for analog electronics. The use of analog computer interfaces will also be introduced.
 
ITEC 383 - Mechanical Power - 3 hours
Prereq: ITEC 140
The course is specifically designed to provide extensive study and understanding of the power transmission and motion control industry . In addition, the course is holistically designed to integrate the extensive technical studies with current manufacturing, management, sales, and industry news and events.
 
ITEC 390 - Telecommunication Law - 3 hours
Prereq: none
A review of the various federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations that effect telecommunication users and providers in the areas of services, tariffs and rates.
 
ITEC 398 - Advanced Architectural Graphics - 3 hours
Prereq: ITEC 120 This capstone course will integrate the concepts of solid modeling design, architectural graphics, estimating, and specifications . An integrated Computer Aided Design software will be utilized . The student will complete all the required plans, specifications, and estimates for a residential structure.
 
ITEC 408 - Leadership in Business and Technology - 3 hours
Prereq: none
This course will present information and provide skills needed by managers who will be required to cope with an ever-increasing rate of change. Creative long range planning coupled with the ability to lead people will be of utmost importance. Leadership styles will be studied by review of characteristics of successful leaders past and present.

Prereq: none
Students will be exposed to construction techniques and management methods utilized in commercial construction projects. Emphasis will be on contract documents, material specifications, structural design, and site investigation.
 
ITEC 410/810P - Construction Estimating - 3 hours
Prereq: ITEC 120 Designed to meet the individual needs of students requiring additional specialization in the construction field of study with emphasis in computer and manual estimating.
 
ITEC 420 - Individual Problems in Computer-Aided Drafting Technology - 3 hours
Prereq: ITEC 120 Designed to meet the individual needs of the student who desires additional specialization in the computer aided drafting and design area.
 
ITEC 425/825P - Human Factors In The Workplace - 3 hours
Prereq: none
This course will introduce the study of human factors in the workplace, human variability, human/machine interfacing, human factors in designing equipment and work station layout, design educational plans for individuals from other disciplines who must interface with these systems, and introduce the federal and state guidelines in this field of study.
 
ITEC 430 - Telephone Communication Systems - 3 hours
Prereq: ITEC 335
Provides the student with an understanding of the basic telephone concepts and the public telephone system. Carrier system, network and customer service systems, evaluation of services and performance, as well as tariffs and rate settings will be discussed.
 
ITEC 435 - Network Data Communication Systems - 3 hours
Prereq: BMIS 181 Comprehensive study of needs and characteristics of communication media. Design and function of networks, communication hardware, software, systems and protocols. Same as CSIS 428.
 
ITEC 441 - Construction: Systems - 3 hours
Prereq: ITEC 120 This course will provide the student with a working understanding of the elements associated with all phases of completing a structure. Topics included are subcontracting, suppliers, carpentry, building codes, decorating, landscaping, and the role of the general contractor. The experiences will be gained through a classroom/laboratory environment.
 
ITEC 450/850P - Individual Problems in Manufacturing Technology - 3 hours
Prereq: ITEC 251
Designed to meet the individual needs of the student who desires additional specialization in the manufacturing area.
 
ITEC 451 - Manufacturing: Distribution Systems - 3 hours
Prereq: ITEC 351
The study of the design and development of products and services emphasizing the quantitative aspects and the interlocking factors affecting human performance and the utilization of facilities, machines, and materials. A working corporate structure will be established to research, develop, produce, and market produce.
 
ITEC 465/865P - Crafts and Community Life - 3 hours
Prereq: none
An advanced course involving craft techniques and processes in a community setting.
 
ITEC 475 - Internship - 3-12 hours
Prereq: ITEC 308 A work experience program planned for students preparing for employment in business and industry or for teaching in vocational programs. The learning situation is organized and supervised cooperatively by the Department internship coordinator. Work experience must involve management training and supervisory responsibilities. Student is to contact their program coordinator prior to registering for this course.
 
ITEC 480/880P - Training and Instructional Systems for Industry and Education - 3 hours
Prereq: none
Audio, video, charts, graphs, computer based training systems and training software for industry and education will be developed, implemented and evaluated.
 
ITEC 482/882P - Digital Electronics - 3 hours
Prereq: PHYS 206 or ITEC 220
Study of basic digital logic circuitry, computer languages, binary math, Boolean algebra, industrial control systems and current integrated circuitry technology will be included. Digital logic training systems of various manufacturers will be available for experimental work.
 
ITEC 485 - Telecommunications Seminar - 3 hours
Prereq: none
A review of the telecommunications industry of today. Students will be required to research various current telecommunications issues and be prepared for discussion.
 
ITEC 490 - Industrial Distribution Seminar - 3 hours

A review of industrial distribution today as it relates to management and sales of industrial products and services.
