Campus Living

Approximately 2,600 students live on-campus at UNK, in ten traditional residence halls, two apartment-style complexes, and two Greek complexes. The Office of Residence Life coordinates all campus housing, and is dedicated to creating and maintaining a clean, safe environment conducive to educational and personal development. Every residence hall facility is supervised by a live-in residence hall director, and staffed by live-in resident advisors on each floor. All residence halls feature several lounges, study areas, and recreational space for student interaction and involvement. A variety of specific living environment options are available to students, including study/quiet floors, upperclass/transfer floors, meal-plan optional floors, double or single rooms, coed or single gender buildings, and fraternity or sorority houses; consult the Office of Residence Life or the housing contract for specific locations.

All freshmen are required to live on-campus during their first year at the University; exceptions are made only for students who are (1) 20 years old or older (2) married, or (3) living with their parents in the Kearney area. All freshmen living on-campus are also required to participate in the food service program provided with their Residence Life contract. Campus food service areas are centrally located in the Nebraskan Student Union and in each of the fraternity and sorority housing complexes, and provide comfortable surroundings for dining, studying and meetings. Housing and food service contracts are sent to students upon admission to the University, and contracts are for the full academic year. Contracts may be paid, at the option of the student, in one lump sum or on an installment plan. A nonrefundable housing application fee/deposit is required at the time of application. The deposit, as well as a contract breakage charge, will be assessed for cancellations past the cancellation deadline indicated in the contract. Summer school students should consult the Office of Residence Life and the Summer Course Schedule for information concerning summer housing and food services.
