THE HONORS PROGRAM
Minimum Honors hours for program = 24
The Honors Program offers a four-year program which requires that students complete twenty-four hours
of Honors Courses. During the first five semesters students are required to take five
three-hour courses from the General Studies Requirements.
During the final three semesters, students must complete nine hours of Junior/Senior credits
taken from their major fields of study.
- Honors Courses within the General Studies:
In close consultation with an Honors advisor, take 5 Honors courses from:
- Take 0-6 hours from the following English Language General Studies:
- Take 0-15 hours from the following Humanities General Studies:
- (Coursework must be from three separate perspectives)
- Take 0-6 hours from the following Literary Perspectives:
- Take 0-6 hours from the following Aesthetic Perspectives:
- Take 0-6 hours from the following Historical Perspectives:
- Take 0-6 hours from the following Philosophic Perspectives:
- Take 0-15 hours from the following Natural Sciences General Studies:
- Take 0-15 hours from the following Social and Behavioral Sciences General Studies:
- (Coursework must be from three separate perspectives)
- Take 0-3 hours from the following Economic Perspectives:
- ECON 270HGS, Principles of Economics, Macroeconomics - 3 hours
- Take 0-6 hours from the following Social Perspectives:
- Take 0-6 hours from the following Political Perspectives:
- Take 0-3 hours from the following Geographic Perspectives:
- Take 0-6 hours from the following Behavioral Perspectives:
- Junior/Senior Requirements
Take 9 hours from:
- Honors Option Courses Variable Topics - 6 hours
Honors Option Courses are selected major courses from the various disciplines which the
student may take as honors credit. The kind of study will vary from course to course and
from discipline to discipline. Honors Options are akin to independent study done with a faculty mentor beyond the scope of the regular curriculum of any 300- to 400-level course required by any major.
- Senior Study Variable Topics - 3 hours
The Honors Senior Study, usually taken during the senior year, is the culmination or capstone of the student’s Honors coursework, directed by a professor in the student’s major field of study. This Senior Study is submitted in manuscript form to be catalogued in the Honors Senior Study Archive.
