The Counseling Center offers confidential and free counseling to students who are currently enrolled at UNK. The Center offers students the opportunity to discuss thoughts, feelings, problems and concerns with professional counselors in a non-threatening environment. Personal counselors offer UNK students direction and support, while assisting them to accept responsibility for their actions and decisions.
UNK students discuss a variety of concerns, including, but not limited to, family issues, relationship difficulties, alcohol and drug related problems, crisis management, depression, and special needs as they relate to academic success. Personal counselors facilitate support and educational groups, which address a variety of issues as the need or interest arises. Further information is available in the Counseling Center.
The UNK Counseling Center provides guidance and support for students with disabilities or other special needs, many of whom need some type of accommodation to make our campus and programs accessible. The preferred procedure is for the student to provide documentation and/or verification of the disability and to complete an intake session where services and specific accommodations are discussed and coordinated.
With reasonable and appropriate accommodations, a student with a disability has the same rights and responsibilities as any other student; however, the student also has the right to choose whether or not to access these accommodations. In addition to offering support and being available for consultation, the UNK Counseling Center also encourages independence and personal growth in all students.
