RESIDENT TUTOR PROGRAM

The Learning Center is responsible for the Resident Tutor Program. In an attempt to insure that every student is provided the assistance necessary to succeed in classroom activities, forty specially selected and trained upperclassmen and graduate students provide free tutoring to UNK students. Tutoring is available in nearly every academic area, so students can receive assistance with almost any class or subject. Tutors are available in the Learning Center during the day, in the Library in the evening, or by appointment.

On March 18, 1988, the UNK tutoring program was the first in the nation to receive the certification of "Master Level" (the highest designation possible) from the National Tutor Certification Board of the College Reading and Learning Association. Since then, this certification has been renewed yearly and is based on the number of training hours attended by tutors, the topics covered, the methodologies employed in training, the total number of hours tutored, and comprehensive program evaluations.

The Tutor Program is headquartered in the Learning Center in the lower level of Stout Hall and is part of the College of Education.
