The Office of Career Services is UNK's primary resource for career development and job search. Students from all academic departments find assistance as they make career decisions and seek employment opportunities. Our staff assists students in exploring majors/careers and in developing strategies to find employment in career areas that match their own unique talents, interests, and lifestyles. We place a high priority on applying a developmental and holistic approach while advising students and alumni.
We aspire to provide appropriate, up-to-date, and easily accessible career information tools and services to meet the needs of those we serve. To this end, a variety of services are offered including, individual career advising, career interest assessments, drop-off resume critique service, video-taped practice interviews, education credential file service and position vacancy listings. Students may also take advantage of the Resume Referral Service. Over 6,000 student and alumni resumes are forwarded each year to employers seeking candidates to fill job openings. On average, over 100 non-education employers and 80 school systems utilize Career Services each year to offer on-campus interviews for full-time employment to our students.
Resume writing, researching employers on the web, dining etiquette, internet job search, selecting a major and interviewing techniques are some of the workshops and seminars we offer throughout the year. The workshops and seminars we offer are open to all students and alumni.
In addition, the Office of Career Services sponsors two career fairs and a graduate/professional school fair. Our career library and Web site offer resources on "what to do with a major in....", salary surveys, graduate/ professional schools, job searching, career decision or change, job outlook, resume and letter writing, and interviewing skills.
Students are encouraged to start their career planning and job search early by investigating the resources available in the Office of Career Services located in the Student Affairs Building.
