Department Objectives:
- To provide the background necessary for understanding the highly scientific age in which
we live;
- To prepare students for careers and for graduate work in physics and other closely
allied fields;
- To prepare teachers in subject matter and in methods for the teaching of Physics,
Physical Science and related fields;
- To furnish pre-professional work for those preparing for a career in science and related
fields.
PHYSICS AND PHYSICAL SCIENCE MAJOR
Five options are available in this major:
- Physics Option - Bachelor of Arts Degree or
Physics Option - Bachelor of Science Degree
- Physics Comprehensive Option - Bachelor of Science Degree
- Physical Science Option - Bachelor of Arts Degree or
Physical Science Option - Bachelor of Science Degree
- Physics Teaching Subject Endorsement Option - Bachelor of
Science Degree in Education
- Physical Science Teaching Field Endorsement Option - Bachelor
of Science Degree in Education
A minor in Physics is available for students pursuing majors
in other disciplines.
A science minor is available for Elementary Education
majors. These programs are listed in the Elementary Education
sections.
Pre-professional Programs are available in Pre-Architecture,
Pre-Engineering, Pre-Meteorology and Pre-Oceanography. Courses with the prefix PHYS
are offered by the department.
