ASSESSMENT PLAN
The Area Concentration Achievement Test (ACAT) has been  administered to all graduating psychology majors since Spring 1998. This is a nationally standardized exam (approximate normative n = 4015) that assesses knowledge in 10 major psychology content areas: Abnormal (Psychopathology), Animal Learning, Developmental, Experimental, Human Learning, Personality, Physiological, Sensation and Perception, Social and Statistics. This provides two important comparisons: 1) for a given content area, we can compare students who have had the relevant coursework to those who have not. A lack of significant difference between these two groups of students would indicate that further assessment is needed to understand the apparent lack of effect on content scores for having taken the relevant coursework.
2000-2001 ASSESSMENT
Twenty-nine graduating psychology majors took the ACAT during the 00-01 academic year. Percentile scores, based upon comparisons with a national sample of over 4500 college students, are provided below.

Below are the standard scores (mean = 500; standard deviation = 100) of the last 52 students who took the ACAT in Psychology at UNK. The second column contains the average score for students who did not have the relevant coursework for that content area, and the third column contains the average scores for students who had taken the relevant coursework.

As seen in the graph below, objective indications are that the program has become increasingly effective at imparting knowledge. Overall scores on the ACAT for the 2000-2001 academic year are at the 77th percentile of a comparison group that includes over 200 colleges and universities.

The departmental assessment committee will review the data during the Fall 2001 semester and decide whether or nor programmatic changes are warranted on the basis of this data.

1999-2000 ASSESSMENT
Eight graduating psychology majors took the ACAT in Fall 1999. The following results were obtained for this cohort:

In Fall, 1999 the departmental Assessment Committee met to discuss how to interpret and use the findings of the ACAT (Area Concentration Achievement Test) and the PAQ (Program Assessment Questionnaire). The departmental assessment committee reviewed this data and decided that no programmatic changes are warranted.
