ASSESSMENT PLAN

begun 1997-98
The small number of students in the philosophy minor allows the faculty to track them and elicit response to their philosophical preparation for graduate school and their professions.
2000-2001 ASSESSMENT
We have two students in the program who might have graduated this year, but both of them are returning for a fifth year in order to complete double majors.

Several of our former minors have completed graduate programs (one in English, and two in Law).

Two former minors are continuing graduate work in philosophy this year, and two others are planning to begin graduate work in philosophy (one in Europe) soon. Several others are in Law school. Another is a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. One of our current minors is on an exchange program at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Binghamton, studying Philosophy and History; another is transferring to UNL in order to major in philosophy. Visits, letters, and conversations with these students confirm a good preparation from the program for these various pursuits.

1999-2000 ASSESSMENT
Of our students in the program who graduated this past year, two are teaching in Nebraska public schools, and two are in law school (one at UNL and the other at Creighton). Two former minors began graduate work in philosophy this year (one in the Ph.D. program at St. Louis University and the other in the M.A. program at the University of Colorado). Another one of our minors is on an exchange program at Northern Arizona University, studying Astronomy and Philosophy. Visits, letters, and conversations with these students confirm a good preparation from the program for these various pursuits.
1998-99 ASSESSMENT
Two of our graduated minors are now in graduate school at Creighton University. Two more are in law school at the University of Kansas at Kansas City. Another one is developing computer software in Lincoln, NE, another is in Officer Training School with the U.S. Marine Corps, and still another is teaching English in Belarus. We hear regularly from all of them and each one of them visits us whenever they are in the area. They all report that the courses and literature they studied in the philosophy program have been, and continue to be, of great benefit to them in their respective pursuits.

The more formal alumni survey is still in development.

1997-98 ASSESSMENT
Letters and conversations with alumni confirm that our students are well prepared for their further studies as well as coping with life's problems.

The Program is developing a more formal alumni survey to be sent out Fall, 1998.
