ASSESSMENT PLAN
These tests are required of all music majors and minors for graduation. Each program has it's own proficiency test. The test must be completed before student teaching or internship.
1999-2000 ASSESSMENT
1998-99 ASSESSMENT
All candidates successfully passed the piano proficiency exam with the exception of a student with a physical disability. This student was given the opportunity to take a knowledge based exam in lieu of the piano proficiency exam.

The syllabus us now in place so students have a clearer idea of expectations for  the exam and thus are better prepared for it.

1997-98 ASSESSMENT
The piano proficiency exam indicates that students are adequately prepared for the level of testing.

A syllabus is being developed in response to the assessment last year.

1996-97 ASSESSMENT
The assessment process has identified the need for a single comprehensive syllabus for use by all instructors at all levels of piano proficiency. The Department is moving to develop such a syllabus.
1995-96 ASSESSMENT
The Piano Proficiency Exams confirmed that our students are well prepared in this area. No program changes are indicated at this time.
1994-95 ASSESSMENT
Improvement was noted in piano preparation, particularly for the BAE and BFA in performance graduates in response to the fourth level of Piano Techniques class.
1993-94 ASSESSMENT
Piano proficiency requirements differ with each degree program offered in the Department of Music and Dance, because of differing professional needs. All students must pass the piano proficiency at the level required by their major are, i.e. music education, music performance (non keyboard), music business, etc.

Recently a fourth level of Piano Techniques class was approved and will be offered for the first time during the fall semester, 1995. The additional level of Piano Techniques will allow especially music education majors the opportunity to reach a proficiency required of music educators.
