Mission
The Department of Music and Dance is a
disciplinary unit within the College of Fine Arts and Humanities of the University of
Nebraska at Kearney. The faculty of the Department endeavors to provide a high quality
music education to the students of the University. To insure the success of this endeavor,
the faculty and staff strive to create the most constructive, secure, stimulating,
challenging, and rewarding environment possible for students. The faculty and students of
the department strive to serve the community, state and region as an intellectual,
artistic and cultural resource. In seeking and fulfilling this mission, the faculty, staff
and students make the Department of Music and Dance an indispensable center of learning,
leadership, inquiry, and cooperative achievement.
Department Objectives
- To provide professional training in music
education, music business, musical theatre, performance, pedagogy, dance, music
technology, and pre-professional training in music therapy;
To develop in students a basis for aesthetic judgment, and an
understanding and appreciation for music and dance;
To assure an opportunity for the highest degree of
artistic development for each student;
To help members of the university community
acquire greater musical understanding and critical judgment through enrollment in music
courses and private lessons, participation in music ensembles, and attendance at various
musical functions;
To offer leadership in the musical life of the
area by providing participative, collaborative, and advisory services;
To present concerts, recitals, musicals, operas,
and music for special events of the highest artistic standards possible;
To prepare students for graduate work and advanced
study.
