ASSESSMENT PLAN
The Department assembles a panel of graduating students each semester to discuss their
college experiences and gain insight into areas which the students believed needed
improvement and those that were beneficial and rewarding. |
2000-2001 ASSESSMENT
After meeting with the students during exit interviews it was determined that maybe
the ITEC 130 class should be changed because more students are coming to UNK with good
computer backgrounds. The Department will watch closely for another year to see if these
comments become a trend from the students and if so changes will be made to the ITEC 130
class. Other comments from the students were vary positive concerning the curriculum and
these comments were passed along to the faculty. |
1999-2000 ASSESSMENT
Results of the interviews with students were used in changing the Construction curriculum.
Students questioned the value of BFIN 316 as a requirement; the program now allows a free
elective for those 3 hours. Some classes were dropped or changed and this allowed the
students to have more elective hours. |
1998-99 ASSESSMENT
This past year we used the comments from the exit interviews along with that of the
advisory council to change the Industrial Distribution courses. Students noted the extreme
similarity between ITEC 140 and BMIS 181, 182. As a result of this, the ITEC course is no
longer required in the major. Some courses were combined and two new courses were added in
am attempt to improve the curriculum. |
1997-98 ASSESSMENT
Due to the exit interviews that were made in prior years, the Department dropped the BMGT
Insurance course from the curriculum since it was not meeting the needs of students. Exit
interviews for last year were not conducted due to the completion of surveys of one and
three year graduates. |
1996-97
ASSESSMENT
After interviewing students that completed their degrees the Department made some changes
in the three different degree options. In response to students' input, the Construction
Option was changed. For example, an insurance course offered by business had been part of
the program, but the students suggested that too much of the course dealt with insurance
that had no application to construction. |
1995-96
ASSESSMENT
In May of 1996 it was very evident from the panel of graduating students that department
student organizations were an important part of their educational experiences. One
weakness identified was the lack of an organization for Telecommunications Management
students. As a result of the panel discussion, the faculty decided to develop a
Telecommunications Student Organization. The student organization elected officers in the
Fall of 1996 and are now planning their first conference participation that will be held
in June. To encourage students to
become involved in all three student organizations the Department now requires all
students enrolled in ITEC 110, Introduction to Technology, to attend one of the student
organization meetings. we have found that if the students are involved just once in the
different student organizations that they will continue to attend tin the future. The
student organizations in the Industrial Technology Department have continued to grow and
offer additional activities. these changes have increased the attendance at the meetings
and have developed the leadership skill of the students.
The panel of graduating students also
recommended that ITEC 480, Training and Instructional Systems, be taken earlier in the
program because the information covered in that class would be beneficial in other
courses. As a result, the Department altered the course number from ITEC 480 to ITEC 290
in order to encourage sophomores to take the course and apply the information to other
courses during their college careers. |
