ASSESSMENT PLAN
The Health Science Programs Office will develop and implement procedures for better tracking of applications, acceptances, and matriculations to professional schools and clinical programs. Student-reported data will be increased by opening more lines of communication through the advising process, e-mail and so on. Schools and programs will be contacted directly to obtain further information. This will allow for more accurate and reliable statistics on the placement of our students. It will also allow us to better track our alumni when we are certain of their acceptance into specific programs.
1999-2000 ASSESSMENT
For the fall of 1999, 76 out of 1001 (75%) UNK applicants were accepted to fourteen different types of professional schools and clinical programs. This number is above UNK’s ten year average of approximately 70%. This is a very high acceptance rate, showing that UNK students continue to enjoy a fair amount of success in gaining acceptances. For example, in 1999, 13 out of 15 (93%) UNK applicants were accepted to pharmacy school. This percentage is well above the national average and is an outstanding acceptance rate to such competitive program which typically receives three applications for every position. Also in 1999, 11 out of 11 (100%) UNK applicants were accepted to schools of occupational therapy. This is also a competitive program in which most successful applicants have a GPA of 3.4 or higher. This information will be used during advising to encourage students to continue rigorous academic preparation. The information will also be used in the recruitment and retention of students.
1998-99 ASSESSMENT
The Health Programs Office is continuing to utilize the strategies implemented over the previous year to track the applications, acceptances, and matriculations to professional schools and clinical programs. For the fall of 1998, 77 out of 111 (69%) UNK applicants were accepted to fourteen different types of professional schools and clinical programs. This number is consistent with UNK’s ten year average of approximately 70%. This is a very high acceptance rate, showing that UNK students continue to enjoy a fair amount of success in gaining acceptances. For example, in 1998, 18 out of 19 (95%) UNK applicants were accepted to pharmacy school. This percentage is well above the national average and is an outstanding acceptance rate to such competitive program which typically receives three applications for every position. This information will be used during advising to encourage students to continue rigorous academic preparation. The information will also be used in the recruitment and retention of students.
1997-98 ASSESSMENT
The Health Programs Office is continuing to utilize the strategies implemented over the previous year to track the applications, acceptances, and matriculations to professional schools and clinical programs. For the fall of 1997, 66 out of 95 (70%) UNK applicants were accepted to twelve different types of professional schools and clinical programs. This number is consistent with UNK’s ten year average of approximately 70%. This is a very high acceptance rate, showing that UNK students continue to enjoy a fair amount of success in gaining acceptances. For example, in 1997, 10 of 18 (55%) UNK applicants were accepted to medical school. This percentage is well above the national average of 33% acceptance to medical school. This information during advising will be used to encourage students to continue rigorous academic preparation. Again, the information will also be used in the recruitment and retention of students.
1996-97 ASSESSMENT
The Health Programs Office has implemented several strategies over the last year to increase tracking of applications, acceptances, and matriculations to professional schools and clinical programs. The advising process was used as a time to gain information from students about application intentions and this information was recorded on a database. Students were reminded to keep the office informed of their acceptance status through flyers, the newsletter and e-mail reminders. Communication with faculty members that also advise some pre-professional health science students was also increased. Professional schools and clinical programs will be contacted in the fall to verify acceptance and matriculation data. These procedures should allow the Health Programs Office to more accurately report statistics on the placement of our students.
