ASSESSMENT PLAN
As part of the five-year review process, graduates are asked to complete a survey evaluating the Department, the curriculum, and the quality of their learning experience. (The Department is considering expanding this program by systematically providing this survey questionnaire to graduates semester by semester.)
1999-2000 ASSESSMENT
1998-99 ASSESSMENT
1997-98 ASSESSMENT
In 1997-98, in conjunction with the Five-Year Program Review, the department conducted a survey of all students who graduated during the previous five years. Thirty-five students from the department’s major programs returned the survey. A complete report of the survey may be found in the Program Review document. Just over half (18) have since pursued further higher education. Seventeen or just under half report that they are employed in the field of education. Of those who completed endorsement programs, 67% are currently employed in full-time permanent K-12 education.

Graduates report a high degree of satisfaction with the programs of study offered by the History Department. They believe that the department’s courses, curriculum, and instruction are superior to that of the university as a whole. Further, they report that their studies provided them with superior writing and thinking skills. Nearly four-fifths rated the quality of the education in the History Department as either "superior" or "outstanding." The vast majority (71%) would advise others to complete a degree program offered by the History department at UNK. Graduate satisfaction with their program of study was not linked to whether or not they are working in a history or education related field. This data indicates that the department can be as confident about   student learning in its liberal arts programs as it is in its education endorsement programs.
