ASSESSMENT PLAN
Each major student will complete HIST 496 (usually taken during the student's senior year)
as the capstone course. The major requirement is that the student prepare a capstone
research project. |
1999-2000 ASSESSMENT
Four sections of the capstone course were offered during the 1999-2000 academic year. 28
students registered and 20 completed the course (5 took Incompletes and 3 withdrew). Of
them, 90% passed the course, 65% with a grade of "A" or "B" and 25%
with a "C" or "D." Once again, faculty and students expressed general
satisfaction with the value of the course itself and as an assessment device. |
1998-99 ASSESSMENT
The department's capstone course, History 496, Senior Seminar was offered for the first
time in 1998-1999. During the course of the year, 4 sections were offered. 31 students
registered for and 28 students completed the course. Of the latter, 92% or all but 2
received a passing grade. 23 students (82%) received an "A" or "B,"
while the remaining 3 students received "Us. Faculty teaching the courses expressed
satisfaction with the students' general level of preparedness as well as with the value of
the class as a capstone experience. Students also expressed their satisfaction with the
course. |

ASSESSMENT
The capstone courses are being piloted during academic year 1994-95. The department will
begin to collect papers from senior history majors in our 400 level courses during Spring,
1995. The Undergraduate Studies Committee will review those papers. |
