ASSESSMENT PLAN
The Department will reevaluate the assessment procedures at the last department meeting of the academic year in April.
1999-2000 ASSESSMENT
1998-99 ASSESSMENT
1997-98 ASSESSMENT
1996-97 ASSESSMENT
Survey: We plan a systematic survey of our graduates in the fall of 1998.

Standardized Testing: Geographic professional associations in the United States have recently published a volume titled "Geography for Life: National Geography Standards, 1994". This work is a response to "Goals 2000: Educate America", as geography is included as a core subject in this Act (Public Law 103-227). The "...Standards..." are described for various levels of education up through the twelfth grade. The department is not certain what role these standards will or should play in the assessment of university level programs. Certainly, at the very least, these standards need to be brought to the attention of Teacher Education students in geography. The Department, however, has no current plan to add standardized testing to our assessment. If such an instrument becomes available, it will be considered then.

1995-96 ASSESSMENT
1994-95 ASSESSMENT
Survey:
We are also still considering a systematic survey of our graduates, and hopefully will be able to accomplish this in the next year or so.

1993-94 ASSESSMENT
The department faculty evaluated assessment procedures used over the past year and concluded that they successfully demonstrated an acceptable level of achievement had been attained by our upper level majors.

Other assessment strategies under consideration include:

Survey:
Systematically surveying graduates of geography regarding how well they have been prepared for their current employment. We hope to be able to accomplish this in the next year or so.

Standardized Testing:
National Geographic professional associations has agreed upon standard assessment exams, but only up through the twelfth grade level. We have asked for copies of these exam, and may consider them for baseline knowledge of our incoming general studies students.
