ASSESSMENT PLAN
Teacher Education
Eligibility for licensure is a requirement for graduation with the BAE or BSE.Dietetics
Nebraska is one of 37 states requiring licensure. After successful completion of an
internship, individuals may sit for the Registered Dietician (RD) exam, which qualifies
them for state licensure through the Department of Health and Human Se5rvices. For
dietitians prescribing diets for patients or clients, a state exam leading to the Licensed
Medical Nutrition Therapy (LMNT) credential is also required. The exam consists of three
parts and it is possible to pass part and have to retake another section of the exam.
Interior Design
initiated 1996-97
Two years after graduation, comprehensive exams are offered for advanced credentials in
Kitchen Design and in Bath Design. Pass rates and alumni assessment of difficulty of exams
are used as diagnostic tools for modifying emphasis in courses, studio work and site
selection for internships. |

1997-98 ASSESSMENT
Teacher Education
All program graduates were licensed. Dietetics
The pass rate in the RD exam continues to be well above average (90%) but possible
deficiencies reflected in initial failure to pass a section of the exam are noted. Student
competencies in the biological, physiological and nutritional core areas of professional
dietetics remain above average but vary from student to student in a small program.
/deficiencies have been found in the Nutrition Education and Research domains of the RD
exam. The Department is addressing this with addition new faculty. A remodeled
dietetic laboratory should provide more opportunities and equipment for research. Students
noted improvement in facilities, learning environment and technical equipment.

Anecdotal reports of high pass rates for both exams reflect high levels of
foundational competencies. |
1996-97 ASSESSMENT
Teacher Education
All program graduates were licensed.Dietetics
Ninety percent pass rate in the RD exam demonstrates high standards of student
competencies in the biological, physiological and nutritional core areas of professional
dietetics. With student numbers growing detecting patterns of deficiency in core areas of
the RD exam is less difficult, suggesting instructional or emphasis changes in courses.
In response to student feedback, the dietetics laboratory is being redesigned and
remodeled.

Teacher Education
All program graduates were licensed.Dietetics
Small numbers of students taking the RD exam make generalization difficult, although
failure to initially pass one of the three sections of the exam suggest possible need to
strengthen an area of biological, physiological or dietetic foundation work. Ninety
percent of our students passed the RD exam.
