Department of Economics
Mission

Students should have the following abilities and competencies:

  1. Knowledge of the U.S. and of comparative economic systems.
  2. Proficiency in the use of economic principles emphasizing analysis, interpretation, drawing inferences, and recognizing relationships to society including global communities.
  3. Proficiency in the use of economic principles, theories, techniques, and tools of analysis requisite for career or for graduate work in the field.
  4. Insight into the relationships between economics and the diverse academic disciplines.
  5. Proficiency in the use of research techniques and problem solving.
  6. Basic knowledge of economics, comparative economic systems, and the "economic way of thinking" for students who are not concentrating in the field of economics.

Students Outcomes in Research/Scholarship

  1. Instill within students an appreciation for scholarly activities.
  2. Develop student competency in economic research techniques.
  3. Develop student proficiency in gathering and interpreting economic data for problem solving.
