ASSESSMENT PLAN
Revised 1995-96
ECON 430, a senior level course, has been adopted for the capstone course. ECON 314, a junior level course, will no longer be used for this assessment.

ECON 314 and ECON 430 are designated as capstone courses for purposes of assessing student outcomes at the twelve semester-hour threshold of the undergraduate degree in economics.

1999-2000 ASSESSMENT
1998-99 ASSESSMENT
1997-98 ASSESSMENT
Review of capstone course ECON 430, International Economics, indicates adequate lower division preparation.
1996-97 ASSESSMENT
Capstone course ECON 430 indicated improvement in student appreciation of research. The Department will continue to require research papers in the 300 level courses.

To help instill "an appreciation for scholarly activities and basic competencies" (1993-94 Assessment), the Department now has three writing intensive courses, ECON 314, Public Finance, ECON 340, History of American Business & Business Persons and ECON 420, Environmental Economics.

1995-96 ASSESSMENT
ECON 430, a senior level course, has been adopted for the capstone course as a result of the UNK Academic Program Review. The Department is investigating the creation of a new capstone course.
1994-95 ASSESSMENT
As a result of the need for greater appreciation and competency for research identified by the capstone courses, research papers are now required in intermediate microeconomics.
1993-94 ASSESSMENT
Student knowledge and competencies in applying economic theory and gathering and interpreting economic data were evaluated by the instructors. No major changes in program or teaching strategies were identified as a result of student performance in capstone courses, although they recommended that faculty intensify their efforts at instilling within students an appreciation for scholarly activities and basic competencies in economic research techniques in both principles and intermediate principles courses.
