FIVE YEAR AVERAGE

1. Summary - Admissions to the Programs in Counseling and School Psychology

Our established assessment process, in place for 20 years, continues to be effective for purposes of selection. It is reviewed periodically. We admit those who meet our entrance criteria; the average number is approximately 69% of those applying.

Total Admissions = 65/year (N = 327)
Total Denied = 16/year (N = 79)
Total Denied (academic review) = 10/year (N = 49)
Total Processed = 91/year (N = 455)

2. Summary - Student Evaluation of Instructors

At the conclusion of each semester, all students evaluate the professors from whom they took courses using a standard form provided by the College of Education. On a 5-point rating scale, where 5 was the highest rating corresponding to "excellent," the faculty received a mean of 4.70.

Mean Student Rating = 4.72 (5 = Excellent, N = 4808)

3 & 4. Summary - Numbers of Graduate and School Endorsements

The Department produced a total of (259) graduates in three programs: school counseling (elementary or secondary), community counseling, and school psychology. A total of (208) endorsements in school counseling or school psychology were recommended.

Total endorsement recommendations = 42/year

As of September, 1996 the State required the Mental Health Practitioner License for Community Counselors.

School = 24/year
Community = 22/year
School Psychology = 10/year

6. Internship Evaluations

The rating scales used to evaluate site supervisors and interns were developed by members of the Department of Counseling and School Psychology using a Likert type scale as a model. The source of items was the program content requirements as defined by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) for the Community Counseling Program. The item source for the School Counseling program was the program requirements as defined by the Nebraska State Department of Education for endorsement as a school counselor. The rating scales used to evaluate School Psychology interns are taken from the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).

Community Counseling Site Supervisors Ratings of Interns:

Community Counseling site supervisors rated 22 interns per year (N = 110) with an average rating of 6.33 across a 25 item scale, 7 being the highest possible rating.

School Counseling Site Supervisors Rating of Interns:

School counseling site supervisors rated 25 interns per year (N = 121) with an average rating of 9.14 across a 7 item scale, 10 being the highest possible rating.
