ASSESSMENT PLAN
A survey is sent to alumni every five years. The chair evaluates the results and reports to the faculty who decide if programmatic changes are indicated.
2000-2001 ASSESSMENT
Survey will next be conducted Spring, 2003. Informal feedback between administration of surveys indicate that graduates have found the management class with its resume and interviewing techniques to be very helpful in job procurement.
1999-2000 ASSESSMENT
Survey will next be conducted Spring, 2003.
1998-99 ASSESSMENT
Survey will next be conducted Spring, 2003.
1997-98 ASSESSMENT
The Career Follow-Up Survey was sent to all Criminal Justice graduates from December 1993 to Summer 1997. The data reveals the following:
58 % are currently employed in CJ jobs
34% are currently employed in non-CJ jobs
12% are currently attending graduate school or plan to
3% are working within temporary CJ jobs
5% are still seeking employment
-----------------------------
56% were very satisfied with their criminal justice education at UNK
43% were satisfied
1% were unsatisfied
-----------------------------
86% elected to take the CJ internship, with
87% finding the course either very satisfying or satisfying
---------------------------------------

Students also indicated those courses within the curriculum that they found particularly insightful, or containing above average content, as well as those perceived as containing below average content.
---------------------------------------
The results of the survey are discussed and examined by the faculty to improve instruction, modify or enhance particular offerings. This is accomplished by examining the particular comments regarding specific courses, faculty members, and other areas in which the surveyed students elected to comment upon.

1996-97 ASSESSMENT
The Department will mail a Career Follow-Survey in the spring of 1998 to all criminal justice majors graduating in the years 1992 to 1997. Details of the survey will be presented within the 1997-98 assessment report.
1995-96 ASSESSMENT
Our next assessment survey will be sent out during the Fall of 1997, and survey all Criminal Justice graduates from Fall 1992 through Spring of 1997.
1994-95 ASSESSMENT
Our past survey revealed data which we found quite helpful. Responses indicated that some courses were not timely or helpful in obtaining employment. Accordingly, the former course in private security was eliminated from the program; and a specific course in probation and parole was eliminated with much of the content incorporated into a community corrections course. The new assessment survey is in the process of revision, and will be used again in 1998.

Based on these responses the internship program has been improved.

1993-94 ASSESSMENT
The department conducted an extensive Career Follow-Survey, contacting all former students who graduated in the years 1988 to 1992. The students were asked a variety of questions regarding their current status, perceptions of the course offerings, and suggestions for departmental improvement. The survey indicated that 60 percent have obtained full-time employment within a criminal justice agency, 32 percent were working in a noncriminal justice position, with the remaining number in graduate school, temporary employment, or still seeking employment. The survey further demonstrates that 61 percent of those employed are making between 25,000 and 30,000 dollars. In regard to graduate satisfaction; 44 percent indicate a very satisfied perception, 53 percent a satisfied perception, with 3 percent unsatisfied. Fifty percent indicated that the Criminal Justice faculty was very helpful, 43 percent indicated the faculty helpful, while 6 percent indicated a not helpful rating.

These findings reinforce our instinct that we are successfully educating students who are also highly marketable.
