ASSESSMENT PLAN
Capstone Courses: All majors must take a capstone course or do an internship in their areas of interest within the criminal justice system.

CJUS 411, CJUS 471 and CJUS 499 function as capstone courses. The chair reviews the outcomes of the capstone courses and disseminates the information to the rest of the faculty for their discussion about program upgrade.

2000-2001 ASSESSMENT
Prior coursework prepared students for this level. Capstone courses indicate that students are prepared to enter the workforce and perform in a professional manner.
1999-2000 ASSESSMENT
Students have good preparation for the capstone. After the course students are able to perform professionally in the field.
1998-99 ASSESSMENT
Capstone courses indicate that students were prepared for the capstone and are now able to enter the workforce and perform in a professional manner.
1997-98 ASSESSMENT
As a result of the capstone courses, CJUS 411, CJUS 471 and CJUS 499, the criminal justice faculty determined significant student strengths and weaknesses. Specifically, a greater need for writing intensive courses within the program was identified. As a result a greater number of writing intensive courses were proposed and successfully added to the curriculum.
1996-97 ASSESSMENT
The department continues to offer our three capstone courses for all majors, CJUS 411, CJUS 471, and CJUS 499. While students are well prepared in most job related learning skills necessary for a successful criminal justice career, it was perceived that a generalized weakness existed in writing skills. As successful criminal justice careers are heavily dependent upon report writing, student achievement is enhanced by completing the capstone courses. Additionally, the department continues to expand writing intensive courses which now include CJUS 320, CJUS 401, CJUS 411, CJUS 471, and CJUS 499. Recently, CJUS 330, CJUS 415, and CJUS 451 were added as writing intensive offerings. The Criminal Justice Department continues to evaluate the possibility of adding additional courses designed to increase writing competency.
1995-96 ASSESSMENT
We continue to offer our three capstone courses for all majors. Our writing intensive offerings have increased as two other professors have been authorized to instruct the CJUS 401; CJUS 411; CJUS 471; and CJUS 499.
1994-95 ASSESSMENT
The Department's writing intensive courses have assisted students in developing and improving written communication through the stressing of writing fundamentals, and the continual assignment of research papers. The Department currently offers Writing Intensive courses in the following courses, CJUS 320; CJUS 401; CJUS 411; CJUS 471; and CJUS 499.
1993-94 ASSESSMENT
We continued to offer our capstone courses; CJUS 411, 471, and 499. Students occasionally have difficulties with formal writing fundamentals regarding structured research papers. The program has developed various writing intensive courses to better equip the students in this regard.
