1996-97
ASSESSMENT
A comprehensive survey of alumni is still planned for 1998. An original survey,
distributed in 1993, will be updated and tailored to reflect more recent issues
surrounding technology, diversity, and general preparedness for a professional position in
the life sciences. Alumni of the
Department are typically invited to make presentations in Biology 209, Opportunities in
Biology, during the fall semester each year. This serves several purposes: students learn
directly from professionals about the array of career prospects in the life sciences;
students better understand the connection between their undergraduate preparation and a
career area they intend to pursue; and faculty are given an opportunity to hear from
alumni about the quality and relevance of their undergraduate experience in Biology in
UNK. Typically, alumni indicate that they felt well prepared and that curriculum is of
high quality and served them well in advanced work in development of a career.
We continue to receive consistent and
regular feedback from both the students and the representatives of the professional
schools to which they have been accepted. Students report that they fee! well prepared as
they began medical school, dental school, and others of the allied health professional
programs. |
