ASSESSMENT PLAN
Each student completing student teaching will respond to an exit survey (Evaluation of Art
Education Program). A survey of alumni is implemented at least every five years. |
1999-2000 ASSESSMENT
|
1998-99 ASSESSMENT
|
1997-98 ASSESSMENT
No surveys were received from the PTE Department. The Department has been notified of our
dilemma. A general survey will be
sent in 1998-1999. |
1996-97
ASSESSMENT
Four students in Art Education completed a survey consisting of 24 goal statements on a
scale of 5-1 with 5 being highest. No item on the survey received a mean score below 4.0.
The following are suggestions to enhance the current program:
- Students could receive more instruction in
methods, especially age-specific methods.
- Students desire more information on
Discipline Based Art Education and curriculum planning.
- Students advocate more technology
training.
The alumni survey will be distributed
1997-98. |
1995-1996
ASSESSMENT
Student teaching surveys were not administered by PTE this academic year. The alumni
survey is being reviewed and the database revised preparatory to distributing it in
1997-98. |
1994-1995
ASSESSMENT
The last Academic Program Review was administered in 1993. Preparatory to the review a
survey of graduates inclusive to 1988 was conducted to ascertain general and specific
aspects of the Department's programs. The next survey of all graduates will be conducted
in the 1997-98 school year. The
exit surveys from the majors in Art Education were generally positive with some advocacy
for Aesthetics and computer literacy.
In response to the 1993 Academic Program
Review, an in-depth curriculum review was initiated in the 1994-95 school year. The review
is still on- going with a projected implementation by spring, 1996.
The review was extensive, resulting in
course and program changes reflecting current discipline language and orientation. |
1993-1994
ASSESSMENT
In conjunction with the Academic Program Review in 1993-94, the Department conducted a
survey of all graduates. The survey allows the graduates to evaluate all aspects of the
Department's programs both generally and specifically. The survey shows that the greatest strength lies in the art
curriculum., more specifically the required senior show and freedom in studio expression
and creativity. Also of significance is a helpful faculty. Weaknesses were identified as a
lack of computer experience, outside programs and speakers, and facilities such as studio
space and lockers. Since the survey, a computer lab has been established that provides a
primary service to our graphic majors. This survey will be conducted again in academic
year 1998-99.
The survey of art education majors was
not given this year: it will be revised and administered next in academic year 1996-97. |
