ASSESSMENT PLAN
In the case of Graphic Design, a jury of outside professionals in the field review portfolios and submit review sheets to the Department.
1999-2000 ASSESSMENT
1998-99 ASSESSMENT
1997-98 ASSESSMENT
Enrollment for the 1997-98 Academic year:
Fall, 1997 7 students
Spring, 1998 11 students

The external reviewers made the following observations:

  • More emphasis might be placed on the portfolio development rather than the senior show.
  • The quality of student work in the exhibition displays the intensity of the Graphics Program.
  • The DPI program and student/faculty participation in AIGA were applauded.
  • The presentations displayed the depth of required foundation courses for Graphics majors.

1996-97 ASSESSMENT
Enrollment for the 1996-97 academic year:

Fall, 1996 7 students
Spring, 1997 7 students

External reviewers complimented the faculty on overall improvement in program offerings that resulted from a major curriculum review. The reviewers especially noted quality design, enhanced typography and projects in multi-media.

1995-1996 ASSESSMENT
Enrollment for the 1995-96 academic year:

Fall, 1995 8 students
Spring, 1996 12 students

Reviewers from the advertising agencies commented favorably on our students' independent creativity as will as their presentation abilities. Previous recommendations in the area of typography have been addressed by requiring an advanced course in typography and an advanced course in computer graphics.

1994-1995 ASSESSMENT
Enrollment for the 1994-95 academic year:
Fall, 1994 6 students
Spring, 1995 10 students

External reviewers, in general, complimented the graphic design students for their divergent thinking in visual problem solving. This, in part, is manifested through a diverse faculty. Also, the graphic design students are applauded for their quality oral and visual presentations, good portfolios, and resumes. General recommendations include a greater exposure to and work with typography. Typography, Art 301, is now a prerequisite for a number of studio classes in Graphic Design. Starting in the Fall, 1996, a second typography course will be required.

1993-1994 ASSESSMENT
Enrollment for the 1993-94 academic year:
Fall, 1993 15 students
Spring, 1994 24 students
