            PLAN
All students majoring in the area of art enroll in Art 499, Senior Project and Exhibit to
develop a senior project and present a senior show/research consisting of a creative,
            technical, written research problem.
Art Education: All students majoring in art education
will teach a full semester in a K-12 program. Students pursuing a K-12 endorsement are
required to teach half of the semester in a K-6 environment and the other half at the 7-12
level. They will be supervised and evaluated by the Department of Education under the
guidelines and direction of the Art Department. Public Show:At the completion of
the capstone studio experience, all students present their project in public exhibitions. Oral Examination: During an oral
critique session open to all art faculty, students are expected to defend their work
presented in the public exhibition and give evidence of understanding of aesthetics, art
history and the art of their own and other cultures. They are evaluated by the Art
Department staff on the overall quality of the exhibition/research. Portfolio:Revised, 1995-96
All students must present their portfolios during their senior exhibition. Portfolios are
reviewed by department faculty and/or external experts.

 Each senior graphic design student
presents a portfolio under the direction of his major professor. A complex outline of the
content in the portfolio are reviewed and evaluated by the Art Department staff.v | 1999-2000

Although ability levels varied, all presentations and exhibitions were acceptable and some
were commendable.Better verbal and written communication reflect the improvement in that
            area of student preparation. |
            | 1996-97 ASSESSMENT Twenty-three students majoring in art developed senior projects in the 1996-97 academic
            year.

                  | | 18 total students | Four students in Art Education
successfully completed a full semester of student teaching in a K-12 environment. (See
Survey, below, for survey results.) Public Show and Oral ExaminationAll seniors demonstrated an ability to formulate their philosophy of visual arts and
present an oral defense relative to their exhibition. In addition, their presentations
included a portfolio and resume. The impact of the required aesthetics class and writing
intensive art survey courses is becoming evident. Generally, seniors are more articulate
in both their verbal and written presentations and in defense of their creations. Ability
levels varied; however, all presentations and exhibitions were acceptable and some were
outstanding, especially during the fall semester.

                  | | 5 students, Art minors |
                  | | 29 total students | During the 1995/96 academic year, 6
students successfully completed student teaching. The one report from PTE showed the
student received the highest ratings possible. The student teaching reporting system is
being revamped so that the Department receives more complete feedback from the PTE student
teaching supervisors and cooperating teachers. Public Show and Oral Examination:Seniors demonstrated an ability to present an oral defense at their exhibit along with
their portfolios and resumes, with some showing an outstanding ability to verbalize not
only the aesthetic problem but the success and limitations of the solutions they adopted.

                  | 19 total students | During the 1994-95 academic year, twelve
students successfully completed student teaching. The survey of student assessment of
discipline preparation was not administered by PTE this year. Public Show and Oral Examination:
The senior exhibits demonstrated preparation of students to present an oral defense at
their exhibit along with their portfolio and resume. |
            | 1993-94 ASSESSMENT Thirty-seven students majoring in art developed senior projects in the 1993-94 year.

                | Fall,
                1993 | 15 students, graphics |
                | 6 students, art ed./studio |
                | 21 total students |
                | Spring,
                1994 | 9 students, graphics |
                | 7 students, art ed./studio |
                | 16 total students | During the 1993-94 academic year
eleven students successfully completed student teaching. Public Show and Oral Examination: Generally the senior exhibits reflected a marked
improvement over previous ones. A positive, major change emphasizes the preparation of
students to present an oral defense at their exhibit along with their portfolio and
resume. This emphasis will be continued.
