Art 425, Aesthetics, is required of all majors seeking a B.F.A. degree. Starting in the Fall, 1996, all majors in Art will be required to take Art 425, Aesthetics.

ASSESSMENT PLAN
Art 425, Aesthetics, is required of all majors seeking a B.F.A. degree. However, the Aesthetics course will likely become a requirement for all art majors as a result of our curriculum review process.

The assessment plan will be reviewed yearly to determine its effectiveness and make changes as they are indicated.

Students continue to draw on the history of art in reasoning, analyzing and evaluation. The impact of the required aesthetics class and writing intensive art survey courses is becoming evident. Generally, seniors are more articulate in both their verbal and written presentations and in defense of their creations.

1996-97 ASSESSMENT

Enrollment in ART 425 for the 1996/97 academic year.

Fall, 1996 24 students

Students continue to draw on the history of art in reasoning, analyzing and evaluation. The impact of the required aesthetics class and writing intensive art survey courses is becoming evident, especially in senior exhibitions. Generally, seniors are more articulate in both their verbal and written presentations and in defense of their creations.

1995-96 ASSESSMENT
Enrollment in ART 425 for the 1995/96 academic year:
Fall, 1995 14 students
Spring, 1996 7 students

Students demonstrated ability to draw on the history of art in reasoning, analyzing and evaluation. It is too early to see results from the Writing Intensive designation from the prerequisite survey courses, ART 221 and ART 321.

Students have a good preparation in art history. Writing skills are not as well developed as discussion. The Department is considering requiring more writing in the preceding survey classes.

Students came with an adequate preparation in the history of art. Verbalization of inquiry seems to come easier than writing, however, writing will continue to be integral to completion of the course.
